What other brand Sport touring Bike would you own
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:26:27 AM »
I am getting the bug to buy another motorcycle. I was considering the 2011 Ninja 1000 but may consider buying a Sport Touring bike instead. If you were buying another Sport Touring bike what would it be? Another Concours ( newer model compared to the one you own), Honda ST, Yamaha FJR or other? Or would you save your money and just buy beer??

I have owned: Allstate, Cushman, Zundapp, Vespa, Lambretta, Royal Enfield, NSU, Bultaco, Hodaka, Husqvarna, Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Kawasaki, Norton, BSA, Triumph, Suzuki.

Never had a bad brand.  All of them were great in their own way.

I'd be riding another ST1300 if the dealer hadn't been such an ass  ::)  They had the only one in stock in town, and were playing MSRP and fees, then wifey pointed to the C14 and asked "What's wrong with that one?  I like that one!"... not a damn thing!... so we left and I got a deal on a C14.  8)

I've also had a soft spot for the triples, so a Triumph could possibly sit in my garage too... even toyed with the idea of turning a Busa into a tourer.  :o

A new C-14 every year would be perfect. I would love to see the new Triumph Trophy come out. Or the new Motus MST looks sweet (the American sport tourer).

only reason I'd buy another bike is if I had $20,000 and a need for more off-street riding. then it would be one of these:

FJR

I like it better than I did the C14! It may be an older design and technology. But I think it being smaller and more nimble IMO is a big thing. And by far better fit and finish over Kawasaki. I expect the flames now from someone who may take offence. But that's the truth. At least for me! And anyone who has ridden with me will tell you that I can keep up OK!  8)

Lol! No offense here...
I looked at the FJR when I was looking for an ST bike. It's a great bike, but the higher price and lack of "newness", pushed me in the direction of the C14.

I like what I have, 2001 C10. But if I was independently wealthy, I'd own the new BMW 1600GT. But, I'm not so I don't.

Like Strawboss, that 6 cylider BMW looks awfully sweet. I have read quite a few reviews, and it is doing just fine so far. The jury is still out on its rear calipers and drivesaft though, so we will see how it pans out.
Some farkles on a new C14 would do just fine though, I need a little more room, personally.
Ride safe all.

Quite frankly, none but the C14.

Eric Buell is looking to market bikes again. I think they are going to compete with Ducati more than any other brands. I saw pricing in the $30,000s though. That was the scary part.

Scaffold, try again on the pricing of the new Buells, up it another $10-15,000 from what I read last week.

Yeah, I saw $39999 + $4000 for carbon edition, but cheaper bikes to come in the future.

One of each for me if money was no object...maybe the BMW 1600...or the ST1300 or the Triumph...or...or. ;D 8) :P The other day I was fueling up and I heard this sweet real mellow sound and yes maybe a Ducati would fit the bill also.

Nobody seems to make exactly what I would like.

550 cc, shaft drive, six speeds, 500 lb., sport touring comfort, fairing and riding position.

The Deauville comes close, but pricey and only 5 speeds.

1000 cc is already too much for me, although it does make for relaxed engine speeds.

The new 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere looks really interesting, so much so that I ordered one, it should be here in August.
