Galaxy S5. I've got a smart phone and don't know how to use it....yet. Basically I got it for the apps. Not going to watch movies, prefer the large screen for that. Ain't gonna listen to music. Not going to get email on it. I don't need to be in touch that bad and probably won't text either. I've got a Galaxy S5 for Dummies book but I have no clue where I left it. It's in the house somewhere...I think.
-
No movies, music, email, text or staying in touch.... going to use it as a door stop?
-
As you get used to it, You'll use it more than you think.
Texting is just part of life nowadays. That's the only way to communicate with half of people.
Load up some Angry Birds and get ready to zone out. ;D

Basically bought it for the apps and taking pictures. It's too light to use as a door stop.

Yep. Never had any use for texting before. But for Craigs List, contacting the grown son or daughter, the wife that never answers (or can find) her phone-texting has its uses. Email is much the same. Use/access it when/if you want, but its handy to have it there.
Get a good weather app (or two).
Back up your pictures. They can/do get permanently lost if the phone goes shoes up and they are not backed up onto a SD card or at least email them to your self.
-
Thanks for the tips..

First One ? Congrats. Pick up a good case that extends in front so it gives some protection to the screen. Oh yeah, don't drop it but enjoy it.
-
Got insurance on it and bought an Otterbox Defender case.. I can't tell you how many times I've dropped my previous phone.
-
I guess I shouldn't be so bad (or old) but they just upset me. I have a flip phone and it works. I can't even answer my wife's smart phone no buttons at all :(
-
Well, on those hot days you can put it under the kickstand to keep it from sinking in the asphalt.

Absolutely the best use I've heard so far. Maybe they have an alarm app that'll call you if someone lifts the bike off the stand. 8)

I've got a smart phone and...
Somewhere something has frozen over or swine are flying. What's next?..going to wash the bike? ;D

I don't have a smart phone either but I do text on my dummy phone. It's a great way to keep up with my sons and grandsons. :)
-
I washed it last Saturday, but that's it for the rest of the year.

You washed your new phone?

Doesn't everyone?

Everyone washes your phone?

Slowly, ever so slowly....I turn.

While I run away...

As you hear the swoosh of a sword slicing through the air...

They have an app for that.... :)

New business opportunity, drive thru phone wash.
-
And if I drive thru with the bike I kill three birds (no birds were actually harmed in this sentence) with one stone.
-
You accually use the birds to kill the pigs. :D

My wife was not warm to the idea of using smartphones at first. Thought it was too cumbersome. But when she started using her S1 (this was like 4 years ago), she became a convert. She said it was the easiest phone to use! She now uses a Nokia Lumia. Give it a shot, I am sure you will never miss that dumb phone of yours.
-
Ok, I am going to try to be helpful instead of a twit this time.
Apps I use the most besides email, text and camera:
Google maps (obvious)
Brightest Flashlight (amazing how handy that is, I always have a flashlight in my pocket now)
UPM (stores all my account and password info in an encrypted vault, only have to remember one password)
ColorNote (when you don't have a pen and paper, use keyboard or voice to make a note)
OI Shopping (shopping list, again voice or keyboard when I find I need something. Week later I am in Home Depot and check it)
Chromcast (Along with $35 dongle, displays youtube, Netflix, HBO Go on your big screen)
Youtube (obvious)
Netflix (I don't watch live TV at all anymore, no commercials)
HBO GO (my daughter lets me use her HBO login)
MyFlightbook (log book for pilots)
United Airlines (check flight status etc.)
Google Sky (find or identify any object in the night sky, Conrad should like this, must have if you use a dobson telescope)
Don't discount the use of texting. I'm currently working and living in TX but my entire extended family is still in Colorado. I get pictures of the grand kids and messages everyday. I'll get a text and or a picture from my regular Saturday morning riding buddies. Makes me feel like I'm still part of the group. I'll send simple message like "miss you" or picture of something funny or interesting to my wife, kids and grand kids several times a day. The kind of stuff you wouldn't want to make a call about but it keeps me connected at a very close and personal level. Just saying.
-
I use my weather/radar apps the most, other than checking/deleting emails. The weather changes so much up here, especially in the winter, that it's a great thing to have.
Google map is great. You can always figure out where you are and/or where you need to get to. Works really good for hunting, etc.
I Need to add the flash lite app. The old phone came with it installed, the current one didn't. I miss it, but then forget....
Why doesn't my post count ever change??
-
Oh yea, I forgot about Weather Bug. Use that all the time. The real time weather radar is a must for us motorcyclists.
Post count doesn't change for posting in "Mish mash" like this thread.
-
Accuweather has really good quality maps you can zoom out/in on. I use it more than Google map just because I usually have it on the homepage header.
-
Posting in the Open Forum doesn't count for post counts..
First crisis with the phone...couldn't answer a telephone call. Kept pressing the green phone button and nothin.... Had to read up on how to answer a call. You swipe the :censored: icon, not press it. Have done a few texts so far but I really don't like it completing what I want to say as it invariably isn't. I don't see how anyone could do this in a vehicle and not kill themselves and others.

Try to answer (swipe the icon) with gloves on sometime if you want to get frustrated.
You can shut the auto completion/guess the word I'm trying to type thing off in your settings. You either get used to it, hate it, but either way you will send some odd things now and then if you don't watch it closely.
-
I think I will start annoying you with a few texts. ;)

Maybe some random pics would be good too?
Did you get a texting plan with that phone, Jim? ;)
-
I've always had a texting plan....never used it. In fact, had it turned off on the less than smart phone. I can see the advantages of some texting. I am investigating the safer methods of doing so. Glad you're back Poke. I was just thinking about you and C.
-
random pics it is then!

You can send til the cows come home, cause you don't know my new number......yet. ;)

You switched your number, why didn't you stay with your same phone number?
-
Yep, added a new number. The old phone is still active but I'm going to turn it off within the month. I have lots of clients that use it and I need to let them know about the new number first. I was getting an inordinate (word of the day) number of telemarketing calls to the point that I wanted to reach out through the airwaves and strangle the :censored: out of them. I've told them to :censored: off, cursed them out repeatedly and they still call. The do not call list doesn't work very well. What pushed me over the edge was with someone I thought was a telemarketer and wasn't. I was somewhat rude with them until I found out they were legit and just following up on some business I was involved in. I felt really bad about that and decided it was time to change the number and also time to upgrade the phone as well. So far, I've added the flashlight, Netflix, and Directv remote apps.
-
That makes sense!
-
Get you some Angry Birds.
Just sayin'. ;D
-
Aaaaargh! Ok.
-
Aaaaargh! Ok.
Play the damn bird game Jim! You don't want to make them any angrier than they already are.
-
Too late... :-[

The birds are angry because they ran out of beer. Screw them and play this instead:

You are ahead of me. My phone isn't even 3g and my wife is using my phone from two upgrades before the one i have now and my son ruined the one in between. I am thinking of getting rid of my phone completely. That said i have an iPad..... Kids all have iPhones

Your phone hid it... Now that is a smart phone!

That's the reason I don't answer my phone anymore unless I know the number. can't tell you the last time I picked up my home phone.
-
Directv app is nice. I put in shows to record if I am not home. zCouple of clicks and it'll be there when I get time.
-
Guys, thanks and I mean that. I'm new to this stuff and the apps are what I'm really looking for.
