I am getting the bug to buy another motorcycle. I was considering the 2011 Ninja 1000 but may consider buying a Sport Touring bike instead. If you were buying another Sport Touring bike what would it be? Another Concours ( newer model compared to the one you own), Honda ST, Yamaha FJR or other? Or would you save your money and just buy beer??
-
I have owned: Allstate, Cushman, Zundapp, Vespa, Lambretta, Royal Enfield, NSU, Bultaco, Hodaka, Husqvarna, Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Kawasaki, Norton, BSA, Triumph, Suzuki.
Never had a bad brand. All of them were great in their own way.
Sport touring,stick with the C-14
-
I'd be riding another ST1300 if the dealer hadn't been such an ass ::) They had the only one in stock in town, and were playing MSRP and fees, then wifey pointed to the C14 and asked "What's wrong with that one? I like that one!"... not a damn thing!... so we left and I got a deal on a C14. 8)
I've also had a soft spot for the triples, so a Triumph could possibly sit in my garage too... even toyed with the idea of turning a Busa into a tourer. :o
-
A new C-14 every year would be perfect. I would love to see the new Triumph Trophy come out. Or the new Motus MST looks sweet (the American sport tourer).
-
only reason I'd buy another bike is if I had $20,000 and a need for more off-street riding. then it would be one of these:

FJR
I like it better than I did the C14! It may be an older design and technology. But I think it being smaller and more nimble IMO is a big thing. And by far better fit and finish over Kawasaki. I expect the flames now from someone who may take offence. But that's the truth. At least for me! And anyone who has ridden with me will tell you that I can keep up OK! 8)
-
Lol! No offense here...
I looked at the FJR when I was looking for an ST bike. It's a great bike, but the higher price and lack of "newness", pushed me in the direction of the C14.
-
I like what I have, 2001 C10. But if I was independently wealthy, I'd own the new BMW 1600GT. But, I'm not so I don't.
-
Given the $'s, which I don't have, I really fancy the latest Honda http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/sporttourer/# (http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/sporttourer/#)!/vfr1200f/ 8) 8)
-
I sure like that Multistrada, for whatever category its in. ;)
-
Like Strawboss, that 6 cylider BMW looks awfully sweet. I have read quite a few reviews, and it is doing just fine so far. The jury is still out on its rear calipers and drivesaft though, so we will see how it pans out.
Some farkles on a new C14 would do just fine though, I need a little more room, personally.
Ride safe all.

Quite frankly, none but the C14.

Eric Buell is looking to market bikes again. I think they are going to compete with Ducati more than any other brands. I saw pricing in the $30,000s though. That was the scary part.
-
BMW GS and a 5-week trip up the Alaskan Highway and similar destinations.
Make that 8 weeks . . . ;D
-
Scaffold, try again on the pricing of the new Buells, up it another $10-15,000 from what I read last week.
-
Yeah, I saw $39999 + $4000 for carbon edition, but cheaper bikes to come in the future.
-
One of each for me if money was no object...maybe the BMW 1600...or the ST1300 or the Triumph...or...or. ;D 8) :P The other day I was fueling up and I heard this sweet real mellow sound and yes maybe a Ducati would fit the bill also.

Nobody seems to make exactly what I would like.
550 cc, shaft drive, six speeds, 500 lb., sport touring comfort, fairing and riding position.
The Deauville comes close, but pricey and only 5 speeds.
1000 cc is already too much for me, although it does make for relaxed engine speeds.

monoshock r100rs airhead bmw

The new 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere looks really interesting, so much so that I ordered one, it should be here in August.

If money were no object it would either be the K16GT or an RT. But for right now the C14 fits the bill quite nicely.

Honda made it. The Pacific Coast.
My wife had one. It was definitely a girl's bike. I hated it with a passion.

Honda NT700V (Deauville in Europe). A sensible sport tourer for a frugal guy....

After the Motus MST V4 is available I will want one! Or at least dream about taking one for a ride.
It has an LS7 derived V4 motor.......... need I say more?

NS7 as in out of an NSX? You ricer... ;)

Nope...... LS7 as in Corvette Z06. The NSX used the C30A or the C32B, but who is counting anyway....... ;)
Just a little backround on the bike: Pratt and Miller (the same guys that work on the C6 race program) have consulted and helped engineer the motor. Those guys know their stuff!
-
It has been brought to my attention lately that Suzuki has indeed made the Bandit 1200 into a ST...
-
GL1800 with a little (lot) of engine work.

Hahaha, I'm kidding! ;D
That's a sweet bike!

Other than an aluminum V motor, I'm curious as to what was used in the design of the Motus from an LS7 motor. Thats the first I had heard.

Supercharger would be cool...

I assume the term "based" was used fairly loosely. But supposedly it is a 1650cc pushrod V4 that uses some GM sourced products.

Stevewfl/wtf:
You need NEW photos. Preferably with attractive females with an aversion to clothing.
We've seen your XR about upteen-dozen times now.
-
Looking at that Motus bike... looks nice, but hey- you think the C14 puts out a lot of heat??? Wow, that think looks like it'll 'cook your eggs' -knowwhatImean, Vern??
-
Honda made it. The Pacific Coast.
Wasn't that an 800?
Besides the lines stink. integrated bags!?!? :o
-
Same brand, but definately a differant model :) Hey Steve, do you have any suitable areas to ride that XR or do you just trailer it around for photo class? Well, it IS a Honda, so I guess your riding to it's potential 8)
-
K1600GT or GTL
Multistrata with ohlin system
MOTUS will be in the stall as soon as arrangements can be made.
Looked at a Ninja 14 today...kicking it around or a Busa....
-
Thanks for the opinions guys. I'll let you know what I decide.
-
I owned a FJR first. Looks like you have a C14 already. If you are replacing the C14, check out the FJR.
My orginal plan was to trade between the C14 and FJR every 3-4 years but frankly they are so close it seemed pointless. I bought a KLR650 as a second bike, complete opposite of the C14 but just as fun.
If you are keeping the C14, buy something totally different as a second bike.

Guys, the question is SPORT touring not ADVENTURE touring bikes. The BMW GS series are adventure touring bikes, or dual sport if you please.
I already have another sport touring bike-87 Guzzi SP II.

The GS can be ridden pretty much anyplace/anytime. I see plenty of them on the street and it's not like they're really a dirt bike. I believe the GS is actually their best-selling model (someone is sure to correct me if I'm wrong). I remember that "fact" from someplace or other.
-
I'm going to whisper this so 'Connie' doesn't hear me (she take's pretty darn good care of me)...I saw that new Beemer (K1600) on Jay Leno's Garage- Nice piece of hardware!!
-
I see plenty of Electra Glides on the street, too, but they aren't sport touring bikes, either.

Looks pretty sporty to me ;D

V-Storm
-
I'm considering a vstrom as the final bike in my stable to facilitate a possible future south america trip.
-
V-Storm
Excellent. I can't believe I didn't think of that. It's the only bike (Besides the Connie) that my dad has had 2 of.
-
I sat on an f800st yesterday - I would buy that bike. I'd also like to try an nt700v but they don't sell them in Canada and the dealer in Grand Forks ND
won't sell one to a Canadian. I find the Connie a little intimidating at low speeds and would like to try a smaller bike.
