Bag latch
« on: June 03, 2015, 04:12:51 PM »
I was having trouble closing the latch on the left bag. Today I almost didn't get it shut. It seemed to bind for some reason. I thought I would have to tape it shut for the ride home. I finally got it shut and took it apart when I got home to see what was wrong. Since I only moved to Branson temporally, I don't have everything with me, including my assorted grease and cleaners. I did clean it up a bit, leaving some grease and adding a little gun lube. I got it back together and it works fine now. I may get some grease and tear into it again one of these days after degreasing everything. But for now it is working fine.

What may have actually been causing the binding, it that it may have been a little loose. The screws holding the assembly in were not tight. I first tried tightening it and it seemed worse, but I didn't tighten everything very well and may not have done it evenly. Once I got everything back together I approximated how tight they were when I removed it, and it was a little hard to latch, I snugged everything up a bit more, and now it closes nicely.

Yes, but I'm not having problems with the bags flying off, I just couldn't shut the lid.

If at first you don’t succeed, call it version 1.0

So I took the latch apart. I pulled the latch cover off and found the broken part. When the tab is broken, it won't close with out lots of wiggling/
Does anyone know where I can get some parts. I can only buy a new bag $$. Then I would still need to change the lock. :(

I see you have an 09 the baglatch recall came out sometime that year, not sure when, what color is the plastic latching pawl that engages the hanger? it should be orange, if its red its the old latch, and Kaw will still replace the latch mechanism for free, it was covered by the recall for life.

if it is a new type, you can pick up the complete latch mech, they don't sell individual pieces for repair, and the key lock can be reinstalled in the new one.
