Little bit of a miss the other day...
« on: June 18, 2014, 05:14:31 AM »
As I was riding back from southern va with my grandson last Saturday, I detected a bit of a miss on acceleration.  It wasn't all the time either.  So I'm thinking it's time to pull the gas pump and clean the filter.  It's something I've been planning to do...just haven't got around to it yet.  Believe it or not, I do have a spare pump I bought used with very low mileage on it.  I also have the spare filter that was discussed here some time ago.  I'm going to replace the pump and then replace the filter on the old pump on the bench and keep that as a spare.  I also have some used (low mileage) stick coils as well.  Hope it's not one of them.  If the pump isn't the culprit then I'll go with the coils.  And if they aren't the issue it's back to the dealer as I have the extended warranty.

How much fuel in the tank when you got the miss? Yesterday before I changed my filter I was running the tank down just cruising around on mostly flat ground and at about 20 miles on the range display I started getting a steady slight miss, hard to differentiate from bumps in the road. Different from my previous experiences of a major miss/cut-out with a big jerk of the whole bike. Good luck with the job.
Nothing worse than having your balls go missing.

I filled it to the brim in South Hill and I believe that I felt it on 85 towards Petersburg.  Which would be about a gallon less than totally full.  It could very well be the fuel itself, although the station I used is heavily utilized off the interstate.  I'll know about the fuel soon enough.  I have to empty some before I pull the tank and I'll check what's left then.  I've got close to 60k on the bike now and it's going to be easy enough (seemingly) to change out the fuel pump.
