I need a little organization
« on: November 20, 2012, 09:46:20 PM »
I carry a few handfuls of stuff in the side bags of my Connie. The problem is half of it is always trying to fall out every time I try to stuff more goodies in there. Has anyone come up with some sort of organizer for their side cases?
This time of year I usually carry tire plugging tools and Slime compressor, bag of ear plugs, spare gloves, rain suit, cargo netting, kickstand pad, dry towel and a few other items I can't think of at the moment. I can just barely fit my helmet in one case and my jacket in the other side when I am away from the bike for my errands. I am sure a little organization of some kind would make this a bit easier but I don't have that "organizing" gene. I have the big pile of stuff gene!
What are you guys doing???

Simple, add a top case. Buy a big one, 50L should do. It holds a couple of lids and then some. As for the tools, bag that stuff together. Rain gear, the same.
It's easy to forget that when you're in the twisties, the stuff in the bags are swirling around like clothes in a washer..

+1 on those bag liners! We had a group buy on those here a while back. Great product, well made here in the USA by a veteran owned company.

I have the Kawasaki bag liners.  I like that one is set up to carry my notebook computer and supplies.

I think you can also get the aluminum part that the police bikes use that create an open top case inside the side opening case.

I think they make dividers for the police bike, not sure if that would help.  I put a lot of that stuff in my tank bag.

You can also get little cargo nets that will hook into those loops in the lid to keep stuff from moving around. I have also used a couple of the flexible cooler lunch boxes as small containers to keep things seperated.

Are these liners sectioned off to hold a variety of shapes or are they just a liner?
I had been thinking of using adhesive backed vecro to hold stuff to the inner walls of the cases but was worried hot days would melt the adhesive and it into a big mess inside.
I'd need to see a bit more of the liners to see if they'd help. I do like the idea of the helmet locks though. May put them on my Christmas list.

I have been using that adhesive backed Velcro to hold my slime pump on one side and a small hard case first aid kit on the other side. Have used it for about a year now with no problems so far. T liners still fit just fine when I want to pack for a trip and the other stuff just stays right there. There is room to mount other little hard cases in the side bags using Velcro and still get the bags to fit and work.

Projektd helmet lock is da bomb.

Note:  You pretty much can't fit ANYTHING else in a side pannier along with a real helmet.  A helmet fills it nearly 100%.  To me it is silly to waste all that space for a helmet when it is needed for other stuff.  Dual helmet lock solves the problem for most of the time.

I use the Hopnel GL1500 Nets... moved them from my ST1300 to my Wing to the C14.  Best $6 I ever spent.  They can be used in the lids on the C14.

When KiPass protects so well we're discussing "organizing"........   we're in great shape.

Next we need a "garage" thread  :D

I use small stuff sacks that you can get at a camping store. They came in a bunch of sizes. The Sea to Summit eVAC bags, once compressed stay in that shape and are waterproof.

Always buy one more bike than you can fit so you can build a bigger garage. ;)

Got me an early Christmas gift.  Finally have a 'team green' in the garage.
