I do not think you have to worry. I hear from most guys here you start to get problems around 50-60k range, also I think the amount of care you give the bike might extend the life as well. However here is a company that rebuilds the j-box and upgrade them.

What can really extend the life of a Jbox, is to get or make an headlight bypass circuit. Murphs' does sell a plug n play one, or you can make your own.

I may be jinxing myself, but my Jbox has 146k mi on it, no issues. I bypassed the headlight circuit at about 22k mi.

YMMV

Any links on how to do that?

Steve,

Nope, they are all dead now. Basically, get a couple of relays, one for the headlight power, another for switching between high and low. Just use the old wiring for the triggers, bring power in from an axillary panel. This way, if for some reason your new wiring futzes up on you, you still have the stock stuff to make the headlight work.

Or just get the nice neat one from Murphs'. It also has provision for driving lights.

Note: If you plan on going HID, most of those already have a bypass built into their harness. Almost plug n play.
