@Zsteve..... technically none of the aftermarket exhausts are legal, ever noticed how they specify track use and offroad only? ;)

Here's mine....

The V&H is the only exhaust that looks like it actually belongs on the bike. It follows the lines of the bike and angle of the bags perfectly!
Almost all the others just look like afterthoughts. Just my opinion.

The Area P follows the lines of the bike and the bags too.

I changed my 2009's original to a 2010 factory.  I always leave the bags and just installed a huge Corbin trunk so the pipe looks normal on  mine all things considered.  Without the bags the pipe looks 2x as big.
 [before/after images]

Interesting but you didn't just change the muffler to the 2010+, you changed the pipe leading up to it as well.  The older one is definitely longer (by at LEAST a few inches), but I can't tell if it is due to the muffler, the lead-in pipe, or some of both.  The design of the muffler is similar, but different, too (I do like the 2010+ better).  So they are absolutely not the same, afterall.

I believe that your statement might not be true of the Leo Vince.

That may be with the the insert installed, but that's the way I roll anyway.

And it's 13# lighter than stock.

I had Leo Vince cans on my DL1000 Vstrom, and they specifically stated for track or offroad use only. OEM cans are designed to meet strict noise and emission requirements, and allot have spark arrestors in them. Some can be tamed down for the noise requirements, but may fail in other regards. Simply not being OEM is automatic failure in all actuality. And yes the weight savings is usually pretty significant all things considered. ;)

The Leo Vince is "EC" approved which is the European regulations for exhausts that can be used on the public streets. Unless a can that meets the European regs doesn't meet the US regs.

The LV for the Connie is the "Standard-mount Factory E-Approved Evo-II slip-on" and may not be the same as you had, although the same claim is now made on their website for the V-Strom exhaust.

Sorry, I guess I'm missing something somewhere.  ???

You aren't missing anything, they made a few changes over the years it seems. Here is what you are gonna see for the majority of the US offerings. Leo Vince isn't an American company, probably a good reason why they have products that meet European specs.

Are aftermarket exhaust systems street legal?
No, a common misconception is that some aftermarket systems are legal while others are not. Currently no City, State or Federally approved motorcycle aftermarket exhaust system exists in the U.S. market. Our exhaust systems are for racing purposes only.

It bolted up directly with no issues.  If you have passenger lowering pegs they may rub requiring a little grinding as the cover is much larger on the 2010+.  I rectified that by making my own unique setup.
