Test rode a Ducati Panigale!
« on: November 04, 2013, 02:09:08 PM »
Stopped by the local Ducati store on my C14 Saturday. Asked if I could sit on the new Panigale they had on the showroom floor. Owner says "sure...would you like to ride it?"
I said yes, and 5 minutes later I'm on the most violent motorcycle I've ever ridden. Loud, I mean LOUD, like a NASCAR! 195 hp and 430  lbs. +/-. I passed up wearing ear plugs, but no matter: I couldn't hear any wind noise (or anything else) over the exhaust anyhow!

Gave it a 10 mile or so ride, and it was FUN! On the way back, I'm sittin at a red light, and all of a sudden, my butt starts to burn. So I look around for the seat heater button, LOL! The "seat heater" is the exhaust system that is routed insanely close to the underside of the seat. Finally the light turns green, or I would have had to kill the engine to cool my backside.

This bike would be a blast on a track, but I can't see anyone riding it on the street. Too much bike; too much heat.

Fun while it lasted, but I was glad to get back on the Connie!

Too many bikes; too little time.

Only question I have. Why?
I'd be afraid I would've killed myself or worse yet, wrecked it and not killed myself.

My test-ride of a 1098 a few years ago had a similar realization... just not practical (for me)... but holy Hell, is that thing fast.

My brother has an 1199, and I've spent some time on it.  It's an amazing bike, and after the adrenaline rush wears off, I find myself fixated on the instrument cluster.  If you haven't seen it, it's what all bikes will sport in a few years.  Funny, I can't even find a picture of it online, but it's a cool touchscreen that allows adjustment of suspension, ECU, Quickshift, etc.  Way cool.

The Ducati bug may have struck me too. I'm looking for something sporty and interesting to replace the EX250. Probably more mundane than the above examples.

The first choice so far is a 2003 620 Sport, air cooled, fuel injection, full fairing, 5 speed, 620 CC. We'll see how the old used market plays out.

could you expand on that one?  :o
Build bridges, not walls.

Education is important. Riding my bike is importanter.
