Title: buying a Kawi demo bike??
Post by: ZG on September 05, 2013, 01:55:44 PM
I remember some posts but now can't find them regarding something about buying a demo bike from Kawi and that it affects some things like warranty or something like that... ?   ???

Anyone have the skinny on how this works?  :-\

My local shop just took in two 2012 ZX14R Kawi demo bikes that they are gonna sell, they say neither has been titled before so can be sold as new, one has 7500 miles on it but the other one only has 400 miles on it...  8)

They're gonna let me take one for a rip this Saturday while they're working on my ZG.  8) ;D

I don't know if it was ever discussed here, but on the other forum it's mentioned here (http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,27046.msg164467.html#msg164467). Something about if the demo bikes were auctioned to the dealer?

That is just plain NASTY looking....reminds me of those commercials about the car that looks fast sitting still...little dog comes out of the driveway yapping his head off at full speed and clomps into the tire of the car sitting still...

So?????  How much did you end up paying and do tell the list of changes you will be making within say the first 3 months?

To answer the original poster's question, yes, the factory demo bikes that they auction to the dealers do not come with the factory warranty. You can get the Kawasaki Good Times Protection Plan (GTPP) if you're willing to pay for it.

I found out when I made a deal on a 2012 "demo bike" with 250 miles on it. When I went to pick it up, the tag on it said "no warranty". I asked the dealer, and he said it was a factory auction and they didn't come with the warranty. I told him, no warranty, no deal, so he said they'd include a 36 month warranty. First they tried to pass off an aftermarket warranty, but I said no way, so they gave me the 36 month GTPP for no cost.

Buyer beware, indeed!
