Ah, but did you know that any Model T made before 1914 is full of parts stamped Dodge brothers? And that Walter P. Chrysler and Albert Champion worked together and wanted to start their own companies; Chrysler started an auto manufacturing company but Champion thought he could make a fat living making of all things spark plugs? So he started a spark plug company..... AC, which was eventually purchased by Delco (GM) and then he started another spark plug company, Champion?
All those early guys knew each other and the whole business was pretty incestuous until maybe the 1930's when companies started to be established.
At one time in the US, there were over 4,000 auto manufacturers? It was entirely a cottage industry until Henry either perfected or ruined it for everyone (I think he perfected it).
