WTB tool box cover lock retaining nut

When I bought my Concours the lock on the tool box hatch in the fairing did not have the retaining nut on it. Regular cabinet lock nuts are too small to fit over the lock body.  I would like to buy just the nut or if someone knows a suitable replacement that would work also. 

Kawasaki just wants to sell the whole lock mechanism at $50 and change.   I'd probably rather glue the lock into the cover than spend that kind of money.

I have never tried it but I remember reading that some riders have used the thin fitting nuts that are used when connecting up electric conduit at junction boxes.

If we are talking about a C-10......

Yes we are talking about a C10.  This is a 2001 Connie.  I have tried the conduit nuts and they are just too tight.  They would probably ruin the threads on the cylinder sleeve.  Before I try something like that I thought I would see if anyone has one.

Would it work if you took a square of 1/4" aluminum flat stock, drilled a large enough hole, and threaded the hole to match the lock threads?

Well, the flat stock and the hole are not a problem.  Finding a tap that matches the threads of the lock body is going to be the problem.  By the time you engage a machinist to custom cut threads you are back up around the price of a whole lock assembly. 

I am sure that there are quite a number of these lock assemblies in motorcycle junk yards that will never be used.  I just don't know where to find one.

I haven't checked this either.  How about the lock nut for office furniture?  or Mac, Craftsman, or Snap-on tool chests?  They look to be a close size.

Check with "Connito" or "Concours-to-go" they are parting out bikes and may have one.  I think I got the names right.

I am in Wichita, Ks. We used to have a motorcycle graveyard about 5 or so years ago but they closed their doors and I haven't seen anything since.
