Don't know if the battery is a place I'd try to save money on a bike that doesn't have a kickstarter to back it up.  (I carry a set of motorcycle sized jumper cables - homemade - just in case, anyway)

I got a 310cca AGM battery from Batterymart (http://www.batterymart.com/p-Big-Crank-ETX20L-Battery.html?Category_Code=kawasaki-zg1000a-concours-battery) for $86.  I know a bunch of guys that swear by those Big Crank batteries for their vintage Hondas.  I put one in my CB750F and loved it.  Retired my Conc battery before it was dead and replaced it with a Big Crank, too.

I know, I wqas thinking about that as I typed it. I personally use an Interstate sealed lead acid battery that is now almost five years old. I'm thinking of doing a pre-emptive replacement.

That looks like the Deka, is made in the USA and has the same EXT20L part number.  $54.99 is a good deal.

I just noticed that the ETX20L is listed as $104.99.  The ETX18L is $89.99.

I would beg to differ, any battery can fail, Ody has a superb track record, and one of the best warranties out there.....don't play them down, they are high on the list for the "best" rating among conni owners....

I'd be a bit careful with these....and personally would'nt suggest them unless you know the ACTUAL ACTIVATION DATE on them....as with the ODY bat also, when they are on e-bay....they are often times ones that have been sitting on a shelf for a year, and are rotated stock.....

I was just thinking of making some. What size wire did you use and what did you use for clamps? Thanks

My dad made them.  I don't know the wire gauge offhand.  The clamps are similar to the type you'd find on a battery charger.  There's even a circuit breaker in case of wrong connections.

10 Gauge is plenty big for jumping off a M/C and in fact can squeak by for starting a car that has no other issues keeping it from starting; you would be surprised at how small the wiring is inside of those cheap jumper cables  that most people buy and rarely ever use. They use really thick insulation and 8 to 10 gauge wire.

I just tried the link from knight_mare's post, and it does come up with the $89.99 price.  Then just put it in the cart and use coupon BIG35, choose pick up and put in my local store.  This looks to be a great deal and is a local buy.  I doubt you can beat this price for a good quality battery.

When you pick it up make sure it says "Made in USA" on it.  Made in China quality doesn't seem to be very good on batteries.  I have not had good luck even with AA size chinese alkalines.  It doesn't pay to cheap out on a battery.  Plus, it is good to buy american if possible.

I seem to recall some rumor, way back before there was an internet, about a city in China (or Taiwan, or Japan, or somewhere) trying to change their name to "Usa" so their products could be labeled "MADE IN USA".
