Tail light bulbs
« on: March 01, 2022, 10:14:49 PM »
I need to replace my tail light bulbs.

Normally I use a 12v 21/5w Sylvania #7528 bulb for all my combo car tail lights. I have a bunch of these in a jar.

What is the highest wattage I can get away with before burning up wires or anything else?

Would 12v 29/8w make a real difference?

It's a difference between 1.5A and 2A, so you won't damage the wires.
However, you are better off sticking with the 21/5 bulbs as the higher wattage ones simply do not last very long.
They make no real difference to rearward visibility.

Be wary of the LED bulbs as well. Many of them now work great, but the sockets on the C10 restrict which ones you can fit.
The LED ones tend to have a shoulder where the metal cap normally meets the glass, and that shoulder prevents the bulb from being fitted.

Thanks boomer. I have rarely replaced the lamps in my motorcycles. I unfortunately ride too little or don't own them long enough. But if the light won't make a difference then there is no need to get them. I was thinking about LEDs but there is too much confusing info. I'll stick to the OEM.
