naked 1400?
« on: April 25, 2021, 11:11:52 PM »
Well, my 2011 got hit by a truck and all of the front and side plastic is broken but it saved the rest of the bike, engine, forks and frame and wheels are all still good. I think I will pull all of the broken parts off and make it a naked bike. Has anyone tried this before?

Not that I know of.  That would be quite a project...

I'd love to see a real nekkid C14.  8)
All the pics online are photoshop or similar  ::) and don't include all the wiring/plumbing that is under that fairing.
Simplifying/re-routing it ain't gonna be simple.

Me too, would be an interesting, if not insanely complex project.... at least, if you want to make it look at all reasonable.

Here is what I am left with, I ordered a new radiator, overflow tank, and a used foot peg from Ebay. It should run after that.

It will be a bit of a project but I think it can be done. I need to fabricate a box or something to hold the headlights and the cold air intake. I will try and move the wiring closer to the frame and make some type of sheet metal covers to bolt on and cover the wiring. Can't afford to fix it right and can't afford another bike.

Strangely narrow sidebags. Was it a Police model C14P?
Looks a mess but hope it'll run for ya.
Did the truck hit it whilst parked?

I had the bags cut down like the police bags, splits lanes much better. They are strong too, the right side inner bag exploded but the lid is just scuffed.
I was on the bike, we made left turns into each other, both leaving driveways onto the street. I had on all the gear and just ended up with a sprained knee.

I ordered most of the parts I need today. I also have access to a metal shop for the remodel. It may turn out looking half way decent when it is done.

I have 2 3.5" LED weatherproof projector headlights ordered, and I found my copper dawg windscreen which I can hard mount because the $700 headlight motor assembly is bent. Going to make some short upper covers from sheet metal to hide the wiring and relays on the sides of the bike. Just have to fabricate a new nose piece to hold the ram air intake, the new headlights, and the windscreen. Going to run stock mirrors, no lower cowl, and no front fender.

Some thoughts - bottom looks cleaner to start than top.  Wonder if some sort of bikini fairing or even just a top fairing like sv650 or ninja 500 would work to hide a lot of the wiring - not necessarily those, but that top quarter or third look.

Dash too big and has to go.  Lights too big and have to go.  Right?

I gave up on naked, just too much wiring and such. I am going street fighter mode now. I found some new headlights, LED 3 inch lights for bus/motorhome and have them mounted now. I am making a new front cowl out of sheet metal and my old copper dawg windscreen. The windscreen adjuster was totaled so it will be fixed mounted. I'm building upper side covers to hide the wiring from sheet metal, they will only go down as far as the side of the cylinder head. I painted the new radiator side tanks black, and the coolant tank too because they will be uncovered.
Here is a photo of the new headlights.
