Clutch slipping at wide open throttle?
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:28:04 PM »
Okay this is the second time this has happened.  I launched hard on the straightaway, wide open throttle winding it up to near redline, shifted to third, locked up the clutch, and as the revs neared redline, there was some weirdness going on that felt like the clutch slipping, and I had to back off to lock it back up.  Anybody else have this happen?

Fried clutch?  I'm pretty easy on it and the bike has barely over 10K.

  • It's only really cold if you fall down in it.

It may be worn out in 10K miles, it all depends on how it was used. Some folks get more mileage out of wear items than others; 10K is a little short IMO but a clutch should not slip once fully engaged (released) under any circumstances. The other possibility is that there is something preventing the clutch itself from fully engaging; a sticking clutch slave cylinder or master cylinder, a clogged master cylinder reservoir port, etc. But again, the clutch should simply not slip at all once it is released.

I just posted about the same issue last week sometime. I've got a Red '09 but mine did the same thing at about 5-6 1/2k RPMS. Kinda felt like either a loss of power at the wheel or like the tire was sliding but I'm almost positive it wasn't the latter. I've tried to get it to happen again but no luck yet. The engine continued to rev but just a loss of power at the wheel...strange indeed.  ???

Did you even resolve your problem? The OP's issue seems different since it occurs near redline.

Really?

He was just clearing his C14's lungs.  I don't abuse my bike, but it will hit 10,000 rpm a couple times a week.

Nope, its like saying that I use my bike like it was intended to be used.  Not abused.  I also don't baby it, because what fun would that be.

Are you the kind of guy that only runs your bike 4,000 rpm and holds up the Prius behind you.  ;D

Nothing wrong with it if you are doing it. Just don't tell us that you are easy on the bike when you are not. That's what Im saying.
