Just had a problem like, only when I was in gear, after I changed the clutch lever. Reseated the electrical connector, all better. kickstand switch will do the same thing, same circuit.

I believe that you can bridge two of the wires on the clutch connector and eliminate the clutch switch and the kickstand switch, that will eliminate both of them quickly.

Beyond that, it could be a thousand little things!

Really need more info than "sputters as I go thru the gears" to be of any real help.... The more details you can give will help us narrow down what's going on.

What T Cro says... also, is your idle set to 1100 rpms?

And a bit confused... "sputters as I go through the gears".   Shifting is typically pretty quick, so the bike doesn't have much time to sputter.

Let us know more!

More update

As I run thru the gears 1st thru 6th it sputters, in 1st gear as the rpm's pickup as I gain speed right before I shift it starts to sputter at the top of the rpm's and does this thru out all gears.
I run only non ethanol fuel in this bike, my tank is clean no rust, new rebuilt peacock and new fuel hoses. New plug wires a year ago. I take good care of the bike, it kept indoors garage.

In two weeks I am doing a 2000 mile trip, sure would suck if it's not fixed.
Help me.

J.

(1) Drain all of your carb bowls to see what comes out.

(2) Have you checked/cleaned the air filter lately?

(3) Try running the bike with the air filter out; report back if it runs better or worse.

(4) Try using some choke to see if the bike runs better or worse; report back.

(5) Have you checked and or changed spark plugs? They are cheap....

(6) What RPM range does the sputter live in?

Make sure your tank is venting properly. Mine did that for awhile... enough to stall me out on the highway at high speeds.. when I'd pull over, I could hear the tank sucking air back in.... pop the filler cap, and get a big WHOOSH! of air into it!

Yeah, this is a tough one to diagnose with that kind of information. Try to be much more detailed, what do you call "sputtering' etc... Steve
