Title: Heated grips resistor broke off from wire
Post by: lprising on July 27, 2011, 07:30:22 PM
I'm afraid this is something more serious.
While trying to rewire the heated grips, one end of the ceramics resistor broke off from the wire right at it's body. Can I buy a new resistor anywhere or I am completely screwed?
(I was thinking of soldering on the wire again, but there is nothing left at the resistor's body, just a shiny dot where the connection used to be...).

Thanks for any tips in advance

Las

Instead of using a resistor, use a universal turn signal flasher. I have a mechanical(thermal) one on my KLR, works well, quite frugal. I would think those solid state ones will last longer, but the cheap mechanical one just keeps on a trucking.

Thanks SteveJ - that's quite an original idea! I will try it.
Thanks again

Brilliant! That's a cheap, efficient, and readily available method for getting 50% power out of heated grips. I hadn't heard of that one before.

You're both quite welcome.

See, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

I think I picked that up on a KLR forum. People over there take being cheap as a badge of honor.
