Really looking forward to the finished setup. I posted about My thoughts on doing kawi green paint on mine about a year ago, I guess. Can't seem to stay off the bike long enough to get started on it. LOL

I told the dealer when I bought mine that I was going to get some Candy Lime Green painted on the bike, but I don't know any competent painters.  Man I wish your painter lived near me.  The only thing I would hate about having such an awesome paint job is the first time I scuff it.

I saw a new Z1000 in person that is the same color you are painting.  It was awesome!

This will be awesome! My Arabian red seems very drab now..  Maybe one day i will get such a paint job. One of my co-worker is buying the zx14 2013 the black with green inserts. We are planning a lot of little 1 day trip this summer. Can't wait to show off some pics.

Seriously, 10 coats of clear???!!!

I hope you give those parts a month+ to cure before re installing them. Also, use neoprene grommets where they secure because 10 "real" coats of clear equates to about 15 mil in thickness. There's a chance things might not line up perfectly or rub against each other because of the extra thickness.  ;D

I hope you give those parts a month+ to cure before re installing them. Also, use neoprene grommets where they secure because 10 coats of clear equates to about 15 - 20 mil in thickness. There's a chance things might not line up perfectly or rub against each other because of the extra thickness.

I think that's 10 coats in total, base, color, blaze, clear.

Aaaah, I see what he's saying. Yeah, base colors and candies are super thin/transparent. They add very little to the thickness. Maybe a couple mils total at most.

When I painted my cruiser, I did 2 coats of clear on everything. It was a mistake because a lot of the parts simply didn't line up perfectly with the extra thickness. Next time I'm only shooting the tank with 2 coats of clear (for extra protection).

Also, FYIY, he probably applied several really thin coats. It's much safer to apply several thin coats if you are working with paint that you're not familiar with.

You know, Jay, you really should have had the painter customize it with rivets...
