Last week I did a weeek long trip with four friends. I have a Beltronics RX65 radar detector but since I was riding 3rd or 4th in the group I was not using it. Instead I was using the power outlet to power a Mixit 2 mixer to listen to MP3s with my Samsung phone. The mixer gives a little volume boost and also has a glove friendly volume knob for when I need to converse.
A few times the group got packed close together in traffic and I was hearing what sounded like a radar alert in my left ear. I racked it up to some radio interference or static. At the end of the week we went home our seperate way. Riding solo I deployed my radar detector and used a battery to power the mixer. I was amazed to discover that whenever the RX65 detected a K band I heard the distinctive K alert in my earbud, in sync with the visual alert on the detector.
Seems like magic to me but I am sure one of the smart guys here can explain this.
