My bike loves the heat
« on: August 17, 2011, 05:34:21 PM »
Today the temperature  was at 100 +  most of the day, My bike, an 09 C 14 has been covered up for about 2 weeks because of the heat  so I decided to take it out for a ride.  Some freeway riding but mostly mountain twisty roads, total was 202 miles on my odometer. The AVERAGE was showing 48.5 and of course I thought that was wrong because I never got over 42 MPG. When I filled it up it took 4.16 gls to go 202 miles, thats equals 48.55 mpg. I guess it likes running in hot weather. The temp was showing 3 bars most of the day. Coolant is full and the bike only has 8500 miles on it.

Clearly you were not riding it hard enough!   ;D

Mileage is usually better in warmer temps, but 5.5MPG seems a bit much.   ???

I was following a BMW 1300GT and a Honda ST1300 so they were slowing me down!!   ::)

My bike is the same way, the MPG seems directly proportional to the ambient temp.

Altitude helps too.  I made a run to South Lake Tahoe and back.  True 50 mpg and I was really getting on it.
