Lost one of our dogs this morning
« on: June 18, 2011, 02:19:30 PM »
Well we knew it was coming. We had to have our 21 year old Chiquaqua "Tiny" put to sleep this morning.
She had what appeared to be a stroke, and she lost control of her legs and could not stand up. This was really hard. This ol' gal had been with us longer than most marriages last. Naturally I cried like a baby and my head and my eyes feel like they are ready to explode. But I know she is not in pain anymore and I will see her again someday. Farewell my sweet Tiny.

Sorry for your loss pets have a way of worming their way into your heart. My childhood pet was a Tiny the same as yours she lived a good many years.

Sorry Jim. when you have pets I think you always know the day is coming, but it's not one to look forward to. Since all my cats started off as strays, I figure each day is better than they were having pre-adoption, but still... Steve

Sorry for your loss Jim. No matter what some non pet owners may think, they are a family member. Just because they are an animal matters not, their loss is painful all the same. I'm like Steve. Saved our two cats (kittens when we got'em) were shelter rescues.  Took all of 10 min for them to be part of the family.
Does this mean we get a "Re-Do" on life too?

Been there. Brings tears to my eyes remembering the day we had to make the decision to put Sparky down due to terminal health issues. Fourteen year old Miniature Schnauzer that thought he was the head of the family. I always told him he needed to get a job to help out with the mortgage since he seemed to own the house. The events of that day have been pushed to the far corners of my memory by the thoughts of the  many years of  love and companionship he brought to the family. Swore I'd never have another and have to go through that experience again. That lasted a couple of years until Hunter came along.

The pain will eventually subside but your loving memories will last a lifetime.

My sincere condolances to you and your family. As a K9 handler for 15 years now I have lost several partners over time. For me, the attachment is indescribable. I spend more time with him than I do my family......he is with me at home and at work. We have been through life and death situations together and he is loyal to the core. I say this only to stress to you that I understand your pain and you have every right to feel it.

Trust in me my friend for I am your comrade.
I will protect you with my last breath.
When all others have left you
And the loneliness of the night closes in,
I will be at your side.

Together we will conquer all obstacles
And search out those who might wish harm to others.
All I ask of you is compassion,
The caring touch of your hands.
It is for you that I will selflessly give my life
 And spend my nights unrested.

Although our days together
May be marked by the passing of the seasons.
Know that each day at your side is my reward.
 My days are measured by
The coming and going of your footsteps.
I anticipate them at the opening of the door.
You are the voice of caring when I am ill.
The voice of authority over me when I’ve done wrong.
 Do not chastise me unduly
For I am your right arm,
 The sword at your side.

I attempt to do only what you bid of me.
I seek only to please you and remain in your favor.
Together you and I shall experience
A bond only others like you will understand.
 When outsiders see us together
Their envy will be measured by their disdain.
I will quietly listen to you
 And pass no judgement.
Nor will your spoken words be repeated.
 I will remain ever silent,
 Ever vigilant, ever loyal.

And when our time together is done
And you move on in the world,
Remember me with kind thoughts and tales.
For a time we were unbeatable,
 Nothing passed among us undetected.
If we should ever meet again on another field
I will gladly take up your fight.
I am a Police Working Dog and together
We are GUARDIANS of the NIGHT.

Sorry for your loss my wife and I are dog lovers. Remember all the good times and memories she gave you...When we lost our first one it broke our hearts. Then we got the second one and when she passed it broke our hearts again. This time we decided to just go out and get another and then another. Presently we have two...I decided to love them for the moment and when they passed get another one to love...Big tough guy here I bawled like a baby at each dog's passing.

Sorry for your loss Jim. Everytime we lose one, I swear that's the last one, it's just hard to lose a friend. My wife always, 'yeah right" and then I get another or two.  Hang in there.

You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.
That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner 'til the end.
Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.
I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
...a young dog once again.

I hope this helps--Dan

Thanks Dan, you should have issued a klennex alert with that one. Very fitting.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Like many others here, I have experienced this pain and know no one can take it away, but it helps to know others sympathize. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Very sorry for your loss.

My Cairn Terrier is sick right now. He has been through lot of tests already to figure out what is wrong. Vet is going to do one more test. He is only 4 years old. He has been sick over two months now.

Jim

Sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. When my last dog died it took my wife and I almost 3 years + to get a new dog as the pain was so great.

Wishing you the best during this painful time.
