So what you're saying is it probably is not a good idea to camp in a stream bed.

That is a amazing video - especially for someone from the east coast.  We don't get to see flash flooding like that.  Most of the time our creeks just kind of all of a sudden start flowing really heavy.  Some times there is a wall of water that comes by - but there was already a running creek there at least.

In NM my dad and I went to climb a mesa with some cool sand stone formations. We parked the truck and had to cross an arroyo about 12 feet across and 8 feet deep or so. It was clear blue sky and dry as a bone for the last month or so. When on the mesa we could see a thunder storm not too far away. When we got back to the arroyo it was completely full of water and raging 20 or 30 mph. It was amazing to see. Waited about 15 minutes and the flood stopped.
