Title: Computer software or application question
Post by: Strawboss on July 14, 2013, 11:00:48 AM
I know its possible, but not sure how I can do it. I have a DVD at home. I'd like to capture a 5 second quote on it to use for a power point presentation. Its an old, 1980 British TV show. I've done some research on various sites for quotes and video clips but can't find it as it just not relevant to anything so it won't be featured. Is there anything out there that makes this process fairly easy to do without downloading some massively intrusive program? I've not checked utube, would it be on there, a whole episode? BTW, the show is called "Enemy At The Door" and concerns the German occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII.

RipIt4Me
create destination directory beforehand

ReJig ifo mode
demux into video audio

Mpeg2Schnitt
load streams, create indeces, cut if required, chapter insertion, save video frame(s), save chapter.txt

DvdAuthor
video, audio streams, chapters.txt
main menu, submenu with chapters

If all you want is to create a snippet, you probably don't need the last one.

OK, so I load the DVD into my drive, go to these sites and download one and follow the prompts for saving a clip? I searched youtube and they have a few clips but not the one I need. I'll try these thanks, its more than I had this morning.

I use Pinnacle Studio 15 and can do what you want fairly easy. But it is an expensive, large program. If I had the DVD in question and the location of the clip you want I could do it for you.

Hey Boss, if you're using Win7 you may already have a program that will do what you want. I believe that Windows Live Movie Maker will do what you need.

Yes, my wife's new laptop has #7, I'll look into it. Its silly really, we were watching and a German SS officer says a comment in typical understated German efficiency to an enlisted man. The way he said it was hilarious, you had to be there. My wife wants to use it in a powerpoint presentation for work. I'll be at the library tomorrow trying to stay cool, and I'll try it, thanks.

Ok, now you got to play it for us when you get it ripped.

Like I said, its only a few words, after questioning the man about something, the officer looks at him and with a sneer says, "you are beginning to annoy me". That's it. It was the right thing at the right time. Guess you had to be there, but yeah, if I get it I'll try to post it, never posted a video before though.

Holy cow, IT WORKED! OK, I'm not a Hollywood producer but it was fairly easy now that I got the hang of it, the most difficult part was trying to find it on a disc with 3 episodes that weren't named or marked. Let me try to post it. No guarantees that I'll be able to do it. Lets see what happens.

Which program did you end up using?

Windows #7. I can post it but what happens is when you go to the video, you are in my photobucket account and can see everything I have loaded. How can I just post the video? Whats the icon up top here for loading videos?

Windows 7? Do you mean Windows Live Movie Maker from Win7?

"I can post it but what happens is when you go to the video, you are in my photobucket account and can see everything I have loaded."

Yeah, I know. I watched your clip and I was snooping around in your pics till my PC got lit up with a fake virus alert and I had to shut my PC down. Maybe that serves me right for snooping but since you posted the link in public I just assumed that you knew we could see all your pics.

In any case, you should do a full scan with a newly updated antivirus program ASAP. I'm running a scan on my PC now.

Yeah, windows 7 movie maker, just found the scene, selected start point, end point, copied. Easy. But, how do folks post videos here? Scanning now thanks.

You should be able to set the permissions on who gets to look at that clip on your Photobucket account somehow, and the other pics there. At least I think that you can, I don't use Photobucket. I'm not sure how others post clips, the only clips I ever post come from youtube.

You could create a youtube account and post the clip there and then here.

Naw, not important. 7 tracking cookies found and deleted, no issues, and low risk after scan, no problems, thanks for the heads up. I got what I wanted with the video, we are still laughing. Again, its an inside joke at our house. I'm German and my wife is Russian. Strict unquestioning adherence to rules and hot tempered alcoholic drinking rampages with peasant Balalaika music and strong, purposeful marches playing at any time on holidays with a sprinkling of snappy uniforms for good measure seem to be a pattern at our house.

The snappy uniform part sounds interesting.    ;)

Your scan finished that quickly? I'm running a full scan and it's just about a third done and has been running for 45 mins already.

I did a quick scan of important files and such, its real fast, the computer that is and finishes in a bout 1/2 an hour, my full scan on my laptop takes about 4 hours, my clunker takes about 24 hours! I've never been told I look "snappy" in my uniform, mine is dark blue as opposed to Wermacht gray or SS black, but I do look professional. ;D

I wonder if the episode and/or scene is already in Youtube.

No Steve, I spent an afternoon looking and couldn't find it. A few clips from other episodes but not this episode. And, I'm wondering if this is possible to do on other DVD's as we were wondering if it was copywrited and whether or not we could do it. Even being U.K and from 1978 I'd say it would still be copywrited.
