Some points to ponder.
First.  Cops are human too.
2nd.  Someone enabled this.
3rd.  RIP rider, there is no right way or time to die.

If you have a coworker, friend, or family member who is addicted to alcohol you owe it to them and society to take steps to prevent a tragedy such as this.  It isnt anyone elses fault that this officer made the decision to get behind the wheel of his cruiser, but to think his condition was a secret only to him?

We think those grim faced men and women who wear a uniform are always in control. The reality is they are in a high stress job that some handle with too much alcohol. Alcoholism has to be confronted before the individual hurts themselves or an innocent person. That didn't happen here. Confronting someone with a drinking problem or drug problem is not an easy thing to do. Too often we let people go until it's too late. Many times confronting the individual and making them get help does no good. That Cop drank until he was drunk because he was trying to medicate a problem. It's very hard to understand and deal with but it has to be done. BTDT.

I know I couldn't handle the kind of stress and situations they face every day and I thank them for that, but someone had to know he had a problem.   This kind of drinking is not a one off type of situation.  It takes time to develop.  Someone in that dept knew about this in some way.  Of course, we'll never hear about that in public.
