Crashed near Glacier NP 6/25/12, Thank you gear!

Day one of our group ride into Canada. Tell my buddies about a road I heard about so we head to East Glacier, MT to check it out. HWY 49 runs north out of town. Seems like a good road then we get some warning signs for loose gravel and have to take it easy no big deal. We get past the loose gravel and having a great ride until. I come around a corner and the road has a huge drop. My bike gets airborn and lands just at the shoulder I am thinking I can save this and start to get it pointed to the road when I hit the mud. Front slips right out from under me and I plant my shoulder and head into the tar and slide for 25 feet. Bike takes an unmanned run down into a gully. First thing I think gotta get down to the bike and before I can even stand I notice my leg hurts too damn bad to do anything. I drag myself up to the edge of the road and sit there thinking crap not good. My two riding buddies get stopped and rush over to help.
Turns out I broke my left leg in two places. Doc says closed trimalleolar and fibula fractures. The closed trimalleolar is down by my ankle the fibula facture is about 4 inches below my knee.
So that my story how my summer riding season was squashed. Which I am fortunate enough to be telling you all about because the helmet saved my mellon and my jacket saved my left arm from being ground down.
Tomorrow I will be going in to get my leg fixed up and sounds like 8 weeks of recovery.

I was thinking the same thing after hearing that you're okay.  :D

Seriously though, I'm really glad it wasn't any worse than that. Sounds like a really rough landing to me.

glad to hear your ok as well. Just curious though , what were you wearing for gear , ie. brand of jacket , helmet boots etc.

Got some picture and a video. Just waiting for my friend to get back from the trip. As luck would have it my friend was trying out his go pro for the first time and riding right behind me, so got the whole crash on video. I can't wait to see it myself.

Gear I had on was an HJC helmet and a Speed and Strength mesh jacket, joe rocket gloves and boots can't remember the brand right now.
