Is anyone using LED H3 replacement bulbs?
« on: August 26, 2012, 07:23:02 AM »
Hello all !

I have a set of new Hella Optilux 1500's I bought several years ago, and I want to mount them on my KLR 650.

I am concerned about the draw from the 55w lights, and am considering buying some LED H3 replacements on eBay, there are several to choose from.  They would drop the load from 110w to less than 7w.

I already have a set of Oxford Heaterz installed that will draw 4 amps max.

I am wondering if any of you have tried the LED H3 replacements, and what the results are.

Any LEDs that I've seen like that wind up being more like DRLs than driving lights.  Unless it is an LED with a housing (reflector and/or lens) as a unit, it just isn't going to throw enough light in front of you to be worthwhile.

I could be wrong, though, and for that price, I'd give it a try.  But don't expect it to have anywhere near the light available from the H3 halogens you are replacing.

I'd suggest a set of H3 HID replacements instead.
