Went to summit of Pikes on Sunday. It was paved all the way to the top. I guess the paving was completed in October 2011. For anyone thinking about riding up, that would be a great ride. The uphill gate closes at 6pm. We got there about 5:30 and there were only a few cars going up and not too many coming down.

There is video of Paul Dallenbach going off on the bottom of the course. 1000hp vehicle with stuck throttle. He goes into the trees at over 100mph and misses spectators by about 25 ft.
Horrific crash. He was life flighted out, not sure how he is doing.
