I own a 2011 C14. I commute 40 miles one way everyday. On the way to work Saturday, I had a error that said "Front tire pressure sensor battery low". When I stopped at a red light, it went off.
Then I went on to work. 12 hours later, I started my bike and a immobilization error came on. I turned the bike off, then back on. When I turned it back on, a FI error came on, and my bike wouldn't start. I had to tow it to the dealership.
I might hear something in the morning from the dealer.
My bike is a month old. 1,196 miles.
Anyone else have this problem?
-
What mods, if any? The low bat warning is normal, once they get woke up they work as advertised. A few have been replaced under warranty.
-
No mods. Bone stock.
When I hear what happened, if they tell me, I will let you know.
I am simply amazed. I have dreamed of owning this bike for a long time, and now this.
-
Never had the problem on my C14. On my SV, if I try to start the bike before it finishes its initialization sequence, I will sometimes get an FI error, which has always cleared itself when I shut the bike off, wait a few seconds and let the initialization complete before pressing the start button.
-
The low battery on a TPS on a cold morning, while not 'normal', is not rare either. As the tire warms, the TPS warning will go away which is why it stopped complaining at a light. I am surprised it's happening on an '11 bike, though. Quite a few of these sensors have had issues with this and have been replaced under warranty. In fact, my bike is going in tomorrow for service and that's one of the things (both of them) getting addressed.
As for the F1 no start, I don't think that's the dreaded ignition switch issue as you see something on the screen. This is something completely different, I think. So that is a new one. We've seen the F1, which is saying you have some form of fault, on the '10s upward, but it's been momentary and occurs while riding. No problem to the bike or rider.
Please keep us informed of the outcome.
-
I guess that answers the question on if the '11's TPM are much different than other years...
I don't think the error for the TPMS is related to your non-start.
With the F1 error and the non-start, I have to wonder if the battery is either bad or has a bad connection.
-
+1, don't think the non-start is related to the TPS, as my TPS did not work for the first six months of ownership and I did not have any starting problems

225......sorry to hear about your problem, I have a 2011 with 7500 miles and no problems as of yet. Please let us know when the problem is found, and how your dealer handles the fix.
Thanks

+1 on the possibility of a bad or nearly bad battery.
But the most important issue that nobody has brought up, is this:
What color is it? If it is black then you found the biggest problem of all. ;D
Good luck, and hopefully they get it figured out quickly.
-
Yup, my first move would be to check the battery connection. Too late now, but it will be interesting to see what they tell you. The only time I've seen the F1 error is while in motion, and other than the quick flash on the screen you'd never know anything happened.
-
My FI error flashes once every few thousand miles and mystically goes off with no negative event. Typical buggy Kawasaki.
I suspect my KIPASS squashes the sillyness so the FI error has never been up more than a few secs.
-
O.K. does the warranty cover towing to the nearest dealership?

Mine does the same. As others have stated, when mine flashes it's one of those "hey, did my warning light just flash or did my eyes just go wonky on me?". Never an actual problem though.
-
225, what is the prognosis??? :-\
-
Whenever a persistent FI light is present you can put the display in SELF DIAGNOSIS mode and read the SERVICE CODES as instructed in the SERVICE MANUAL in section 3-39, FUEL SYSTEM (DFI) Self-Diagnosis. (Turn Key on and push both buttons for > 2 seconds, code(s) are displayed.

So I'll ask again, If the bikes break down on the road does the factory warranty cover towing to the nearest dealer?

I seriously doubt it, but your insurance should cover it.

Yes and/or your AMA membership

It didn't for me. I learned that I could add "RV coverage" to my AAA membership that also covers motorcycles. It's $30 per year fee. I used it and can say it's well worth it.

Thank you, This is my first Kawasaki and Honda covers towing if you break down.
-
Why would Honda cover having your Kawasaki towed?

Update:
The dealer said it will take at least 2 months before I get my Connie back. The computer was throwing 12 different codes.
I am waiting to hear back from Kawasaki and the dealer. Look like I got a lemon.
-
Holy crap
12 count 'em 12…
I am so sorry to hear that and to take so long to get it back just ain't right

I'd **** a brick if a dealer told me 2 months. Is that because they are so backed up, or because they think it's going to take a long time to fix?
-
Two months?!!!!
Hopefully it is something simple like swapping out the ecu. Good luck and hopefully you won't be without your brand new bike for very long.
-
Something seriously wrong with the service dept if they did not give you a real good explaination for an at least two months delay. Just speculation but I would think 12 error codes means a bad ECU or wiring harness which they could quickly swap out. And if replacement ECUs or harnesses are not available they should take on off a showroom bike.
-
Yeah, it probably only takes a few hours to put one together from start to finish on the assembly line. :)
Maybe the dealership let all their techs go for the winter.
-
I would call some other dealers and see what time frame they give you to fix it. Two months is absurd. I hope you get this issue fixed so you can enjoy your new ride!
-
I think I would want a 'why' from them on that one....

+1!
I know that if I had my brand new bike for only a month and the dealer told me that it was going to take two months to fix, I'd be livid! :o

Thanks for the replies.
They said that it is either the wiring harness, ECU, or a bad ground somewhere. If by Tuesday I don't hear good news, I am going to bring it somewhere else.
So I take it I am the only one with this problem? Just for the record, I also own a supermoto, and a Honda CB1000R. I love them both, but my Connie is a excellent bike.
I hope they hurry up so I can ride it.

I think we've had one other that had an F1 error and it was something to do with one of those things.... It may have been in the old forum, though.

Good luck bro', hope it works out with a happy ending.

Strange things happen. In another post I told about a buddy who has 600 miles on his bike and the final drive had to be replaced because there was no fluid in it. That's the only I heard of like that so maybe your is a 1 time thing also. Hope you get it back soon,

Nope. I had the same problem. My bike died after showing the "FI Error" message a few times. I usually got it to restart, but the last time I had to have it towed to the dealer. The diagnostics showed a number of different errors and the mechanic (technician?), after looking at the wiring diagram, realised that these codes all had a common wire. He tracked it down to a faulty connector on the ECU and replaced the wiring harness and the ECU under warranty. It only took a couple of weeks though.
-
I knew it!

I always hope it works out with a happy ending too ::)

225,
There was a fellow on the COG forum from the Las Vegas area who had problems with a cylinder cutting out on a new '11 last spring.
It took the dealer a month or more of trial and error (mostly trial, as in swapping parts) before they finally tracked it down to a connector at the ECU that had a couple of the pins in the wiring side connector that were not pushed in all the way. The pins hadn't locked into the connector housing. Once they fixed that, the guy said the bike was fine.
Could be something as simple as that, and depending on which wires, could cause all kinds of havoc. Be sure to tell your dealer to check for this as well.
-
My dealer had to order a cord for the KDS system to hook it up to the computer. Once they have that cord. We will know what the problem is.

If they needed a cord to diagnose a problem it looks like your C14 is the first (or one of the first) that they have worked on. Good luck.
-
Maybe its a case that the C14 is such a quality bike, they've never had a need for the cable.

Also a possibility.........

I agree. I think the C14 is the best sport touring bike ever built.
They build thousands a year. Not every single one is going to be perfect in mass production. Hopefully it will get fixed and I can ride it more.

It is actually amazing with so much technology in any modern vehicle that there aren't more problems than there typically are. Just a single pin on a single connector out of hundreds of pins can cause a major failure. One broken trace on a circuit board. One faulty transistor. One little burr of metal on a critical part. Etc.

Or one spilled Pepsi...

So what was the final result of this? I have a 2009 that flashed the immobilizer error at me this morning. I turned it off and when it quit flashing I restarted the bike. The error went away but it is disturbing.
