Title: My Concours blog post
Post by: versys_man on September 24, 2018, 09:43:43 AM
Hey guys,

I sometimes write motorcycle blogs/reviews in my spare time and recently got lucky with my Concours blog being published by https://safer-turn.com/

Link: https://safer-turn.com/article/kawasaki-concours-claims-her-crown/

I am hoping some of you could comment on the accuracy of my information or writing style in general. I certainly learned a lot when researching this behemoth of a bike. It seems sad that Kawasaki is slowly replacing it with the supercharged family of bikes.

And before you ask, I ride a Versys 650 :P

P.S. I understand that the company who published my blog sells motorcycle accessories and I hope I am not violating any rules by linking this here. No bad feelings if you want to take this down. I am just super proud I got published :)

"The only drawback I can still find in this motorcycle is the performance at lower RPM. When you go out touring with friends, you want to appreciate the landscape. When you are travelling through some amazing natural attractions, your RPM is 3,000 to 5,000. At this level and 85mph, the Kawasaki Concours is nothing astonishing. The big engine only wakes up when you are pushing it. This is definitely a drawback when it comes to the overall experience of the motorcycle. Most of us who like doing big miles on beautiful places enjoy the roar and the landscape. Having to choose is really annoying. Turning the throttle transforms the Kawasaki Concourse into a low-flying missile. You can really feel that 153 horsepower between your legs pushing forward. If the driving in the mid-speed range was a little more comfortable, it would be perfect."

Huh? Sorry, as someone who does the type of riding described, I find the mid-speed range perfect for this use. So you are saying a tourer wants to zoom by the landscape and hear the roar of the bike? Unreal. The bike is wonderful on the open road in the "mid-speed" range. It is very comfortable in that range. If I want more, it is there. If I want even more, I can downshift and have the missile you describe, but for touring.

Oh, and a factory standard tank bag? Come on, what manufacturer provides a tank bag with the bike? Sure, some are offered as an accessory, but not standard. Please.

Oh, and nice advertisement. That is not a blog, it is a commercial site. Nice first post.  :doublepuke:

Yep. This thinly veiled attempt at marketing is now a reason for me to not buy from the STS. I was barely interested before, but I might have recommended them to someone else, now, no. I just hate this type of promotion. There are perfectly acceptable ways to promote your company, but to post as a "blog," and at the same time insult the intelligence of the potential customer is a bit too much for me.

On the plus side I found out my 14 has a 3 position windshield and a little transmitter to open the bags. ;D

Versys_man, I'll take your note as your genuinely proud of being published, and want feedback on the accuracy of your information or writing style in general.

If your Blog; was intended to be a sales campaign, you did pretty good.
was intended to review the machine, you stated assumptions as fact, without knowing the full/correct detail.
was supposed to highlight features, (as others have pointed out) you made several serious errors.

Bottom line: It sounded like you gathered the facts, partially misinterpreted them, and have little riding experience (if any) on the bike.

I do salute your effort, I too would be proud if one of my articles was published.
But I think you need to go back and get your facts straight.

In your note, you said; It seems sad that Kawasaki is slowly replacing it with the supercharged family of bikes.
Just like your blog, you posted your assumption as a fact...

ie;  I don't think it is official that there will "not" be a 2019 Concours.
(Even if so; Kawasaki may hold off a year in production "due to sales" (as they did with the C-10).
The supercharged bike that Kawasaki is now offering,, may or may not replace the Concours.
It may be targeted at another market.
(The Concours is recognized as a good price/value.)
(The supercharged bike is in a much higher cost bracket and will appeal to some because of performance.)
If they did replace the Concours with the new bike in 2019, it is not slowly being replaced. It is immediate!

Hope this helps, Ride safe, Ted

"The drastic change between the GTR 1000 and the Kawasaki Concours 14 was top speed. "

I wouldn't say that is THE drastic change.  It is far, far more powerful and tons more electronics.  Those, to me, would be the biggest changes.

The electrically-controlled three-position windshield was a huge plus too.

It is infinite position not 3, but with an optional 3 position auto-return memory.

To open and close them with the dedicated transmitter (no key involved) is excellent.

??  You have to open the panniers with a key.  You START the bike without a key.  You can also open the glovebox without a key.

The only drawback I can still find in this motorcycle is the performance at lower RPM.

There is no such drawback that I am aware of.  It can be improved with a reflash, of course.

The rider position was dramatically improved since the Kawasaki GTR 1400 2017.

No it wasn't.  The 2017 has the exact same rider position as every other GTR/Concours 1400.

Also, the Fuel Economy Mode proved to be useful in the long run, although it takes away some of the fun.

It does, but only if it is turned on.... it is optional which should be stressed.

You canĀ“t make two hundred miles on a single tank.

Yes you can.  In fact, the normal range is between 220 and 240 miles per tank.  I do wish it were more.

Things not mentioned that are notable- tire pressure sensors, excellent suspension, VVT, fantastic transmission, extreme reliability, KIPASS, and best warranty (3 years standard, extendable to 9).

I don't think it is official that there will "not" be a 2019 Concours.

As far as I know, we don't know yet.  It is probable there won't be a 2019, but it is not certain.  I was surprised when there was a 2018 model.

It can't replace the Concours, because it is not comparable.  They may stop making the C14, and not come out with a replacement, however.

The supercharged bike is in a much higher cost bracket and will appeal to some because of performance

And not even shaft drive, and significantly shorter wheelbase, and small windscreen that is not adjustable, and a lot less range, and less storage, and not as comfortable, and loss of analog speedometer, and much more expensive, and only 1/3 the warranty, and higher seat, and no keyless starting, and other negative differences.  It has some positives, for sure, but it is quite a different bike.

"The Kawasaki GTR 1400 sports a 5.8 gal gas tank."

It is a 6.1 gal tank.

Owner's manual is wrong?

Owner's manual is wrong?

Ug.  I think I fell into that more than once now.  Ya know how you spell a word wrong, then find it is wrong, then can't remember which is wrong in the future?.  I think it is some combination of having 1.1 gal LEFT in the tank at low fuel indicator (that is the ".1"), and that some people have measured 6.0 to 6.1 actual when filling up to the absolute [but possibly not recommended] maximum.

Removed/thanks.

It's a real shame, you wasted your time, and never even had your "NAME" published as the author...
but then, with all of the inaccuracies in changes, timelines, C10 history, and such... I wouldn't have 'signed' it either.. but kudo's for stopping in and showing your accomplishments.. :rotflmao: :chugbeer: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

nice job....
I think the editor of the blog also mised your 'faux pas', in suggesting "must have accessory things" for the bike, which could be purchased from.....
wait....
wait.......

HONDA?

Kawasaki GTR 1400 Accessories

Accessories you can buy from Honda:

what a load of tripe.

Epic Fail.

We are not amused at your statement concerning the ordering of Viagra... >:( :battle: :rotflmao:

I don't see the need to neither lock nor ban nor lop a head off at this time.   I think it's an interesting discussion so let's keep this civil.

It has been my experience that a well- placed Easy Boys! can fix- up almost any fox paws (I believe the French miss- spell that one though). I betcha' that would have worked for Richard Milhous if only he had mentioned that very thing to a certain group of plumbers.....
