Brakes buzzing
« on: July 11, 2011, 04:12:31 PM »
I remember seeing something about this before the crash. Search does not find anything.

I have a buzzing when the rear brakes are applied (sounds like locust) on the C14, anyone know the cause? Thanks.

Well........yeah! I have always used both (much more front than rear) and lots of engine braking, not really concerned, just curious why the buzzing with the rear.  :o

I get the exact same sound from my rear brakes.  Even after new pads.  The dealership said "Its normal"...

I get that buzzing...sort of like an electrical sound, on all of my bikes using "HH" rated semi-metallic pads.  Never an issue.

If you hate the sound, try some of the Galfer Black rear pads..the cheap ones G1054 series (GG rated). Plenty of power for the rear and a decent feel.  They also polish up the rotor and make it look really nice. VERY QUIET!  I really dislike Galfer, but these pads are really good rear pads.

have you jack up the bike on the center stand?  Jack it up, start the engine, shift to 1st gear and let it run - apply the rear brake pedal and see if you notice anything?  Have you clean the pads or the rotors lately?  if not, clean it and see what happen.

My front brakes would buzz when I put CL pads on them....  Never had the back ones do that, though.

It is just the pad going over the million holes in the rotor.  Some C14s are louder than others.  It seems to get better as the pads wear into the rotor.
