Well if finally happened to me. Today I went for a ride and the front TPMS read out was ----, rear one was fine, went to the dealer and he said he had one in stock but would have to call Kawasaki to see if they would cover it since he thinks it's the battery that went dead.
It's on 09 and I bought it November 2010, I have only owned it 8 months, and it has 7700 miles on it. They better cover it.

How can they tell? It's not a replaceable part. They replace the whole thing, sensor and all.

I never got a low battery warning, the last time I rode it everything was fine.

He said it's the battery and I'm sure they are talking about replacing the whole unit because he said the part is $170.00. But as Jeremy said, I never got a LOW BATTERY warning. So has Kawasaki been replacing these unit without any hassle?

Some of the anecdotal evidence is suggesting that they may be backing away from replacing a sensor with a low battery message. Maybe this is phase 2, code named (SOL) by the Kawasaki warranty service managers....

I thought that Kawasaki wouldn't replace the sensor if it was failing/reading low bat in low temps but they were replacing units that failed in warm temps?

I thought that as well but maybe their hearts have shrunk two sizes down....or the dealer isn't saying the right words. I guess we wait for the final verdict.

This service guy is a good guy, he has done work for me on my Gold Wing and this is where I got tires for my concours. But I think it's strange that I didn't get a LOW BATTERY warning so maybe it is the unit that went bad. And on the other hand, I have only owned the bike 8 months, it should last longer than that. I'll keep you posted. He said it will be probably Tuesday or Wednesday of next week before he hears back from Kawasaki due to the holiday

You shouldn't have an issue under warranty. They state the service life as 5 years. Even if the unit failed and the battery is good, still covered.

My dealer didn't blink an eye when I asked them to replace my sensors, since I was getting the low battery message in cold weather. In fact, they hadn't even seen the message on my dash before they told me Kawi had approved the work.

This is the kind of situation that comes up in almost any business.

The reality is that some dealers will fight in their customers' behalf and some just don't want the hassle.

This is true with cars, bikes, electronic gear, etc. Just about any product and not just at the consumer level but also biz to biz.

And it's not usually the company owner that's the reason, but some sales or service manager making a decision about whether or not they want to put in the effort.

Got a call from the dealer today, he said he was swamped when I came in and wasn't thinking straight. He said my bike is under warranty, there is no problem replacing the TPMS sensor, I will bring it in Friday, he said it would only take about 45 minutes.

Tires are good, I thought about waiting but I think I have about 8,000 more miles to go on my front tire. I just got back from the dealer, he put in the new front tire pressure unit but he didn't have the tool to get it linked to the readout, I have to go back when he gets the right tool from Kawasaki.
