Value of a brand new 2012 Connie
« on: October 16, 2015, 10:14:53 PM »
Need some advice. Looking to buy my first Connie and found 2 brand new 2012's at a dealer, what is the most that I should pay? They're asking 15k  :o and that just ain't happening on a four year old bike, new or not.

Thanks in advance

Well you can get a brand new 0-mile black 2015 in Rockingham NC for $13,298 OTD (pay tax/ tag / title upon return to your state): www.ebay.com/itm/141802407891

And here's a 0-mile red 2014 at the same place for $10,998: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131626996175

Considering you can get new 2015's for less than that I'd say you're seeing the reason why this dealer STILL has unsold 2012's in his showroom.  Talk about out-the-door depreciation!  Considering that even 2015's are shortly going to be last-year's models and will be discounted, they are nuts!

Even with 0 miles this is still a 4, perhaps 5 year old bike.  Look at the periodic maintenence tables.  Some of those are due simply on time, not miles.  The brake and clutch lines - 4 years.  No way I'd trust 4 year old tires.  All the rubber parts, seals, etc. are likely deteriorated at this point.

Considering you can get an almost new 2012 for low $8K or less, or a new 2015 almost anywhere for about $15K, why would you mess with this?

Color choice would be the main reason (at least it would be for me, since black would NEVER be an option).  The other could be availability (if you don't want to travel or deal with a non-local dealer).

I paid $12800 for my '12 bought new in 2012.

I would look up NADA value on a used '12 and that is what I would offer him.

Look up Sportcycles in Rockingham, NC.  See what they are selling Concours for.  You might just need to do a fly and buy.  That is what I did.

Just picked up a 0 mile new 2014 for 10,899 (500 military discount is expired now so compare at 11,399) so yeah, I'd say they are way over priced.

Just bought a new 2014 for $10,995. There are some Kawasaki factory promotions that expire at the end of October. Check them out and make sure YOU know what they are. My dealer claimed he didn't know about them. Right.........

Color is definitely one of the primary drivers in my decision as black is not on option for me either. Though buying from them is not my last resort. I can and will do a fly and drive or I found a low mile 2012 (4K) for 8.6k with an aftermarket windshield, two brothers exhaust and a few other upgrades that I may move on if the dealer does not become reasonable.

I just paid $8500 for a 2012 with some extras and 3500 miles on it.

I missed a 2013 for $9100 and it had 65 miles on it - Ebay.

I would take your time, you will find the right bike at your price if your not in a hurry.

You are absolutely correct!  For the PATIENT buyer, the opportunity to save a bundle is there.  But a local dealership who is sitting on an inventory of 2012's is not likely the place.  There are just too many motorcycles sold to people who buy on a whim and then just end up storing the thing in their garage.  So unless you just have to have that "new bike smell", which fades away really quickly, then keep shopping and be ready to pounce on an opportunity.

For example: http://toledo.craigslist.org/mcy/5243402893.html

Not sure where you are Poltergeist, but for the difference between the local stealership and this you could travel 1/2 way around the world and back!
