thanks guys for the explanations, both on the slang and the technical side of my question. Indeed, I do try to keep it low on revs (but always above 2000 rpm) whenever I'm on level ground and constant speed. As soon as I need power I drop 2 gears and issue solved, or when I'm in "predator/suicidal" mode.
Yes, I reside in the land of the Autobahn, and those 40 miles where around Munich going to the airport and pass it, and then back home before it started raining. It took some effort to take the helmet out due to the smile. I don't do it often, maybe once every two months, but I enjoy it. I prefer winding roads like those to the south of Munich, well in the Alps. Check 47.629901,11.354442 or also 47.683222,12.04751 in googlemaps and you'll see...  ;)

Mine runs smooth all the time. Maybe I don't get her into triple digits very often, but I sure get the RPMs up there.
Damn... maybe that's why I can't get any decent MPG on that sucker :)

I ran those roads in a BMW M3 when I was visiting Garmisch Partenkircken and I have to say that they were some of the finest roads I have ever had the pleasure of driving or riding on.  I had a blast.  I just wish I would have owned a motorcycle while I was stationed there.
