Ohh No A Rear Tire Thread
« on: January 31, 2012, 06:25:36 PM »
OK, I burned down the Azaro AV46 rear, not pleased with mileage. Handeling was excellent, but it cupped at 4k and then thinned quickly. I know some  here ride harder then I do, but 7800 miles is not very good for me.
So, I was just wondering what the word is for 2012, be nice now, on the latest, greatest, or in my mind, best handeling, highest mileage and best price catagory. Remember, I'm a cheap A$$.
So put on your thinking caps, research your favorite websites, and let the C10 world know what your recommend, Please.  :)
Ride safe all,
Greg

Looks like a good deal.  since they are discontinued maybe a search will turn up even a better deal. I got some Dunlops a couple yrs ago that were as low as $35 on closeout.

$85.00

I got 14,000 miles out of my first one. I ride year round rain or shine, never any traction issues. So I got another one.

Isn't the new Michelin Commander II out now in our size for the rear?  I think I saw that motorcycle-superstore.com had them for around $130 including free shipping a few days ago.  Not a bad price if it's supposed to be a little better than the original Commander.  I'm running the Shinko 777 now....just put a second one on my bike last fall.  I can't remember exactly but I think I got between 13 and 14K out of the first one with no problems.

02 Conc- Corbin seat, Cee Baileys shield, MCL fork brace, 4 pot calipers w/zrxmopar's adapters, 310mm rotors, SS brake lines, 1.1 Sonic springs, C14 rear shock, TCro's stick coils, SiSF's economy jet kit, front tip-over bars w/hwy pegs, KB bar risers, fender extender, block off plates, HVMP bar end weights, grip heaters, Murphs fuse block, 55W HID upgrade, relo'd coolant bottle & helmet locks

I just mounted up a Venom bias in stock size on the rear. I think I'm liking it, especially paired up with a 110/80zr18 PR3 in front.

Shinko has just come out with a Wang size radial, the Journey 890. I shot them an email, they said it is designed for a 3.5 to 4" rim. I will prolly do one of those next.

So the SE890 is on the market?  Can't find anything on it other than it's undergoing "Real World" testing. ???

No. The Avon AV46 is a radial tire.

150/80ZR-16 (71W) Avon AV46 Azaro Rear Motorcycle Tire

I'm on my second one. For me, they stick like glue, but I only get around 7k out of them.  :-\

Pirelli Sport Demon Sport Touring tire.
Motorcycle Super Store has them in 150/80-16 for $129.99. I know some have used this tire. I checked the Tire chart and it isn't even listed, so was just wondering how it did for you.
We seem to be covering quite a few brands so far, just thought I'd ask.
Thanks for all the input, this is helping hopefully more then just me.
Ride safe all,
Greg

Just some F.Y.I. for your files.  I contacted Michelin about the new "Commander II".  Here's the response I received.

"January 04, 2012

Hello Stephen,

Thank you for your email. We welcome the opportunity to serve you.

Unfortunately, we do not make a 130/70-18 or an equivalent in any of our tire lines. Since we do not recommend mixing tread designs, we do not endorse mixing a Commander II with a different tire.

We regret not having a tire to satisfy your needs.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.

It is our goal to ensure that your issue has been resolved or your question answered to your satisfaction. If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 1-800-642-4354 (toll free) between 8:00AM and 8:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday or between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Eastern Time on Saturday.

Sincerely,

Why 130x70x18 rather than a 120x70x18 or even a 110x80x18?

Why 130x70x18 rather than a 120x70x18 or even a 110x80x18?

That's just the size of the Pilot GT's I'm running. I like the stability on the open slab. And I don't have any trouble in the twisties with that size so that's the size I inquired about.

Motorcycle Superstore has the new Shinko SE890 Journey  160-80 x 16 for $130.99 shipped.
Not to bad, think I'll pull the trigger.
My new $.02 , hope it helps.
