I took my Connie out for the first time since I finished the EFI project. I am hopeful that there is at least a few that have experienced and fixed this clunking noise.
Happens on every little crack in the road. Hard to describe but it is coming from the area around the front shroud/instrument panel. Sounds like the whole front shroud is loose but I know I put all the screws back in.
Anyone?

I'm going to take it that you have all fairing bolts in their place. Did you take a look at the fairing stay bolt? It's the one attaching the fairing brace to the downtube right below the top triple. If that's OK then I would consider the instrument panel itself. They are rubber mounted for some give and take. However, that movement has bothered me enough with a noise over bumps and I have added more or new foam weather strip around it like the bike comes new. Have also, for lack of better description, stuffed a piece of foam under the gauges. It's out of sight under there and offers support without making it too rigid. Some pipe wrap insulation cut to fit makes a good one.

Thanks, didn't know where to start. You gave me a couple ideas where to look.
Just got an idea. I can go banking on the frame with m big rubbe mallet and have my wife look for the source of the clunk.

Don’t overlook the front suspension/mounts either.

Check Triple tree and tighten steering stem nut.

The bracket that holds the front fairing is known for getting loose or breaking.
Raise up and down on the front fairing. From your description, I suspect that could be your clunk.

I went around the front end banging the cowling with my open hand. Got a lot of noise from under the wind shield and some more from the side panels where they contact the plastic glove box thingy. Also the lid to the glove box rattles when bumped. Took your advice and used pipe wrap insulation. Removed windshield and stuffed a bunch between the instrument panel and dash top and some more between dash and front cowling. That did a lot to quiet it down But more to do tomorrow.

Suppose that will work but I was speaking about the grey/black insulation that is foam. It has a slit down the side so it can be put onto the pipe and comes in 1/2" and up sizes. In case it gets wet I think the foam is a better choice.
Little noises can be annoying. IIRC....just bent the locking bracket tab on the key side of those storage pockets to tighten them up.

A 2&1/8" exhaust clamp will fix it. No welding, no dismantling - rock solid.
