Water pump O-ring size?
« on: May 31, 2012, 04:11:32 PM »
Anyone know offhand what size the O-ring is that goes around the water pump housing where it goes into the case?  (the oil seal, not the coolant seal).  My Sofie has sprung a leak and there's no way I'm going to Kawasaki for an O-ring.

By the way, SISF, if you see this, I bought her from you last February with 20,400 miles.  She now has 37,000 miles, runs strong.  On the second battery, about to be on the third set of tires and do her third valve adjustment.  I added a ZX12 shock last winter, and a couple other things in the fall.  I get compliments on her all the time.  I've gone carless and she's everything I've wanted in a daily ride.

Both seals are for oil. One seal  is for the shaft which is  the one that leaks most times. It backs out  of its housing and you can fix it usually putting it back. You can tell because the oil leaks out of the weep hole. (that is the one you called 'coolant seal')
The 'O' rings is for the outside of the water pump to the engine case.
Your going to need both seals from Kawasaki.  No getting around that.
Steve just did a write up on it.

Well damn, that's a bummer.  It doesn't seem to be coming from the weep hole (I ran some UV tracer through it) but from where the water pump comes out of the case.  Guess I'll go put it back together until the seal comes in.

Yep, it's the '94.  She's been damn good to me so far, just a weeping clutch slave, sticking rear caliper and now the leaking water pump have been plaguing me.  I've fixed the caliper, I need a clutch slave and I think the brake fluid from the clutch slave may have taken out the water pump seal.

Yeah, I got that, the cover o-ring and the inner mechanical seal on the way from Ron Ayers.  If I'm gonna take that water pump off, I'm gonna take it off once.
