After finishing installation of the shocks, I think I may have installed them 1/4 inch too long.
Should this make any difference in handling?

If you mean that you did not bring them up through the trees by 1/4" you will experience ever so slightly slower steering. If you brought up through the trees by 1/4" too much you will have slightly quicker steering. But either way you will be hard pressed to tell the difference unless you are very sensitive to minor changes.
