Carb work stand
« on: February 14, 2012, 09:30:29 PM »
Since a lot of people are working on their carbs these days, I figured I'd repost pics of this little work stand I made a couple ofyears ago.  This was back before this forum got wiped out so these pics are lost.  Yeah, it's a couple of bucks worth of PVC tubing and an hour to build, so it may not be worth it for one carb set-up, but I pull mine every year and I find it easy to use.  Submitted for your consideration.  Whatever.

Made from 1 - 1/4 inch PVC pipe.

One eight foot length of 1 – ¼ inch PVC pipe
Six 90* elbows
Two “Tee” fittings
Two end caps (optional)
Five band clamps – range of 1” to 1 – ½” or equivalent
PVC glue
One beer (I mean, really, this is a quick project)

A couple more pics, yes it swivels and rotates so you can access the carbs in any position.  Also, pic of how I set-up the fuel tank, etc., outside for setting the fuel levels:

Nice set up!
1 question; How does the PVC do if you get carb cleaner on it?

OK, 1 more question: your list doesn't include the fitting that the carbs themselves slide into.
In photo XXX738 it shows the fitting to be a threaded fitting? What fitting did you use here?

Yer Parts List:
One eight foot length of 1 – ¼ inch PVC pipe
Six 90* elbows
Two “Tee” fittings
Two end caps (optional)
Five band clamps – range of 1” to 1 – ½” or equivalent
4 threaded fittings?
PVC glue
One beer (I mean, really, this is a quick project)

Ride safe, Ted

Sorry I missed the pieces that the carbs mount to in the parts list.  Just as "timsatx" posted, that's the part.  Threaded on one end and smooth for tubing attachment on the other.  There's no actual need for the threads, it's just the stuff I had around when I built it.  I cut four slits in the end so the clamp could squeeze it down to grab the carb body.  Maybe there is something that would work better.  You only need two, not four, since it only has to be attached to the outer two carbs.  It's just a general idea of how to build it.  Since I originally posted it some time ago, others have made slightly different versions.

So far no problems with carb cleaner.  I sprayed the heck out of the PVC with Berryman's B-12, which is mostly acetone and toluene, and it didn't seem to affect it.

I saved the pictures from when you initially posted this, and made one, it is truely a nice and frugal tool. ;)
