Buzzzzz
« on: May 12, 2012, 12:21:14 PM »
I never really had any issues in the past, but recently changed to Heli Bars and the buzz is noticable. I am in need of some maintenance, valve adjust, possible carb cleaning and sync all of which may help, but I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar experience. I bought them used, so I have no idea if there are torque specs for the fasteners that may help mitigate the new found buzz. TIA.

Hey BB,
Heres an experiment you can try. Take a motorcycle tie down and strap between the bars and snug it up. Then ride it and tell me if that helps. If it helps I will explain why, if not then we never had this conversation.
(Safety tip - tie up the slack in the tie down before riding)

Interesting. I don't think I have any straps with me (temporarily living in my RV), but I'm sure I have a bungee cord or something similar I can wrap around the upright portion of the bars to try to kill the buzz. Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

Bungee cord wrapped fairly tightly gave a small improvement, tough to be sure, but it seemed like it took a bit longer before logger my hands went numb.

The reason I said a strap is because a bungee won't be tight enough, the idea is to
kill the tuning fork effect of the separate bar halfs.

I'll have to dig around and see if I have one with me. I'm sure all of my ratchet straps are back home with the trailers, but I may have a cam buckle strap, that may not be tight enough either, though. I may have to see if I can borrow one or buy another that I don't really need...

No hurry, just try it when you get a chance.
