I noticed that the Curiosity rover has no solar panels. So I looked it up. It has a nuclear power generator. No problem with dust build up on solar panels.

The thing that I find fascinating is that we'er looking at another world yet if you showed this to someone and didn't tell them what it was they would be like: "wow that's a desolate place, is that Death Valley?"

When I see things like this I wonder why in heck are we even thinking of a manned mission there? The robots are discovering everything we would ever need to know about the planet (and more).

I can see going to the moon (again), good reasons to do so, but Mars?

Oh, I don't know Dan....there's a goodly number of folk I'd like to see on a slow boat to Mars.  :)

I was thinking exactly the same thing, only difference being in the Karoo in the RSA, not Death Valley USA....

Except for the blue sky and clouds, Mars looks a lot like the Karoo.
