Title: "retro 90's fun" my new project
Post by: stevewfl on December 05, 2012, 08:44:13 PM
I had one of these ZX9Rs  and it got stolen. Like a good neighbor state farm was there, but I always missed it. It was my first real sportbike, I had bought it new.

Tonight I had a tip on a deal and went to Orlando in the Tundra cage and picked this project up (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/bigthumb.gif)

Very cool, I love the old school 80's & 90's bikes, congrats Steve!  8) :chugbeer:

Are gonna track it or just for fun on the street? Or both?

Nice! What does she need?

Thanks!

So far I can't find anything major wrong but i've only ridden it a few miles. The clear "Break-in" warning decal is still on the front of the tach, and the decal underneath on the shock reservoir looks great too. It has 15,000 miles.

My needs list thus far I'm finding is:

Brake lines swap (still has the rubber lines from 1999!)
Chain adjustment
grips
tank protector
repack Muzzy exhaust
Dunlap to Michelins

Hope I don't find anything major wrong with it but so far so good

Thanks!  I suspect it'll be the bike Teressa learns to ride on, then mostly street....of course a few track days here and there. I've been twitching to get back out there and had sold my track bike and all my suitable sportbikes for the track

That's a wild color scheme, making it look like a Teressa bike. I don't care what color it is, I'd take it through the twisties.  :)

I had an EX500 stolen from me back in the 90's. Found it parked one street over in another apartment complex, knocked on the door it was parked in front of .....what a dumb-ass. I took my bike back.  >:(

I don't know what's worse, the dumb thief or the fact that you had an EX500...  ;D ;)

J/k

I have no room to talk, I think when you had that one I had that late 80's Ninja 250 that I crashed with Scotty on the back...

Well, I mentioned in another thread I was worried about the bike because it lacks KiPass, and a gentleman suggested i simply carry my C14 FOB around with me.  Brilliant idea....will report how well that works after I've put some distance on this retro ride. So far so good  =)

Teressa's learner bike project is going well. This weekend she learned to roll in first a ways and stop and never dropped the bike.

But I might let her do the whole MSF class before riding any further on the retro rocket =)

Nice!  My wife dresses out her horses in Lime Green and Purple, but hasn't mixed the colors together.  Looks good.

I never owned a 1990s bike.  I jumped from 1985 to 2001.

Now a guy is selling me a 2008 600RR with 4000 miles on it for less than a cost of a old Hyundai on bald tires.  I don't need a third bike, but geez a track weapon for peanuts I can't pass up!

And each is a street bike, geez, you must live in Florida where dirt riders wear dockers as foot wear on rides ;)

Actually FL is HUGE active all over the state for ADV/off-road/MX/enduro and AMA hare scramble events.  I've been eyeing an ADV bike like your beemer too but i just like the mad pow-ah and knee dragging on the tar-mac!

There are ADV folks telling me they know routes from east side to west side of FL and never hit pavement except to 'cross" streets in rural areas.  I find that hard to believe but haven't followed them.  I soild my Honda 650 because I just didn't have time to fool with it so have been hesitant to pick up an 800GS beemer

I hear ya Steve if I didn't have the terrain I have I'd probably have a 1200 for getting somewhere with grave, trees and hills.  Good on ya for living the "just one more" way of life ;D

If I may ask, why are you going to repack the exhaust? I repacked the Two Brothers slip on on my Concours, it was a total waste of time, the old packing was just find after 40K miles.

I hope to decrease noise a few db, I've had great luck with doing it in the past.

Two bro's are designed to be loud! (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/bigthumb.gif)
