48K service
« on: May 14, 2014, 09:30:29 AM »
Hello folks. I haven't posted here in quite a while so figured I'd share this with the board.  Just completed a 48K service on Corrine (she's a 2008).  The following services were performed by yours truly: Valve adjustment, new spark plugs, valve cover and timing cover gaskets, exhaust cam sensor o-ring, flushed antifreeze, cleaned K&N filter, flushed brake and clutch fluid, new fork seals and oil (performed at a shop).  She rides great, though she was running great before the service.  All except for one of my exhaust valves were tighter than spec (.13, .15, .18, .20, .17, .15, .15, .15 from cylinder 1 to 4) and only four intake valves were tight (.12, .12, .12, .15, .15, .15, .15, .12 from cylinder 1 to 4).  Overall it took me about a week, working on it a little on days that I could.  Not exactly a fun job but I know it was done correctly and saved my roughly $600.  Word of caution, if you have the Kawasaki shop manual be careful with the exhaust valve measurement because it has the average (mean) number as 0.125 instead of 0.215. Almost messed me up! Was wondering why I was requiring larger shims than what came out when the valves were tight not loose, turned out the be the wrong posted mean value in the manual.

Nice work. I do all my own maintenance too. Not only do you save a lot of money but you know it's done properly.
Don't forget the final drive oil change.

The final drive oil change is coming with the engine oil change, which will be performed in about 2 weeks.
