I can't get the wrinkles out and I don't think it's just me. I would avoid the 3m, maybe their other product, known simply as Tankslapper, is better but the 3m stuff just plain will not lay flat and I don't see how it possibly could.

Just curious what other foiks results are?

Did you try warming the film with a hair dryer as you applied on contours?

It just requires pulling and tugging and patience. A second set of hands help too. Start on top work your way forward and down. It helped having someone keep it from sliding down while pulling horizontally.  Do that and work it down slowly. I struggled w some of the other pieces but those were not that bad.  Be sure you are using lots of soapy water.

You gotta get that stuff, and the bags, warmed up to get it applied correctly.

Do you mean this stuff: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kawasaki-Concours-14-Hardbag-Reflective-Decals-GTR1400-/120698504920

Because I put these on and had no problem what so ever.

I used the tech spec tank grip. It has like 6 pieces that go around the tank where you thighs touch the sides and 1 big piece for the tank. Think it looks rather well too. Thought about the tank slapper but decided against it.

I have excess material. Warming would make the existing material larger. How would this help?

No, I used that stuff (or the tank slapper version of it) and it went on like cake, perfect and easy.  I am speaking of the protective clear film that goes on top of the saddlebags that has to match multiple contours.

No, that stuff is all flat as a pancake and stiff. That would be very easy.  I am speaking of the 3M material that goes on the top surfaces and wraps both around the edges and down the sides of the bags AT THE SAME TIME.  Take a flat piece of paper and try and bend it around a basketball, you end up with too much material.  Same problem. I talked to the guy on the phone and watched the videos endlessly and followed the procedure as closely as I possibly could. I suppose if I did it 100x I may have better luck, but I only have one bike.  I looked at yours, you have 3 pieces on each side, what protects the surface where your belt bucklet or coat zipper rubs?

I am seriously considering just buying some packing tape. Same concept, petroleum based glue, cut each piece down to fit and wet it down enough on the surface of the bag and on both sides of the tape with the baby oil/water mix, bang, done.

PIP. You just have to pull a little.  Start In one place back top of  case and work towards the front and down.  Use lots of soapy water. Keep it wet and squeegee as you go. Trust me I never applied any before my bike. If you can get some one to help you an extra set of of hands help tug while the other squeegee.   You are not going to have extr you are pulling it to take form of the curve and get rid of wrinkles by squeegee as you go.

Hey PIP,
If you just want to do the side cases have you seen the TechSpec protection for the bags? It works great IMO for keeping boot scuffs off.

I like my boot scuffs!  8)

Reminds me it gets ridden and not washed.  :P

They usually polish out when I get after 'em!

FWIW mine got a bath today. Yep, it rained!   :D

Good luck!

I pulled a little, I pulled a lot, no joy.  You did the exact same stuff on bags?

PIP,  yes!
I would go take a picture of it in the garage but you can't tell it's on there......but it is.  Don't get me wrong there is a learning curve.  I bought the entire kit. About 25 pieces and I buggered up one learning. The one that goes on top of gas tank over filler area and covers large area on left and right of the tank.   That was a struggle.  I got a replacement from Lucas for that piece. I am waiting for it to warm up to put on the new replacement and the head light pieces. They have a lot of contour changes and are probably the most difficult to apply.
