Title: Do your Armor All® your tires?
Post by: COG-528 on June 20, 2011, 11:31:08 AM
I found a 1998 C-10 for sale on eBay® (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Concours-98-Excellent-Condition-Great-Buy-/130535710839?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item1e6488e077#ht_500wt_1182) with a beautiful custom paint job.

The seller is obviously following the axiom that it is more important for a used vehicle to look good than run good when trying to sell it.  The result is he has done everything possible to make this 1998 C-10 shiny. IF I were to do anything like that to my tires, I'd spray the Armor-All on a rag and CAREFULLY wipe it onto the sidewalls.

But since my bike cleaning chores usually consist of occasionally hitting it with a power washer, I don't think there's any danger of Armor-All getting anywhere near my tires.

Hey, look at the rest  of the bike. It looks like it spent a lot of time out in the weather. Making the paint and exterior look good is important when trying to sell it. He needs to hide all the rest of the rust by making the rest look great! Come on Mike. I could see you trying to dress up a pig to get a better price! The bike may be fine, But the rust has me wondering way more than the Armorall!   ;D

I simply ask the seller to ride it over so I can check it out.

Never, ever, ever. Just dish soap and warm water on the sidewalls only. It also cleans the wheels very well also, and rinses off with the hose. Or I just ride a little faster in the rain.
Ride safe all.

And while you are at it, make sure you give the rotors a good coating of WD40 so they don't lock up!

Not even the sidewalls. A little rain shower will make it spread and KILL you.

I have Armor-All'd my sidewalls for years with no problems. Now one time my wife Armor-All'd the seat on my dragbike while we were between rounds, now that was a fun experience.

That is so bizarre it makes me wonder what other whacko things the owner may have done that you don't know about.

Armor All made me wreck my first car.  My friend Jerry and I took my '66 Barracuda out for a test drive after overhauling the carb, and the P.O. had put so much Armor All on the interior, the seat was so slick I couldn't get a good cheek-lock on the seat, lost control and wrapped it around a telephone pole going sideways.  OK, so I was going 70 MPH in a 25 MPH off-camber curve, in the rain, on bald tires, but it was the Armor All that f*(ked me.  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Hahahaha, new guys sometimes donthat to the bench seat in the truck while trying to "clean really well". Driver hits the brakes and the attendant goes sliding.  Only happens once though......
