'10 Glove box on an '08? [2nd gen box on 1st gen]
« on: November 27, 2011, 07:17:16 PM »
I am sure this has probably been asked before but I was wondering if this was as simple as a couple of parts replacement (inner cover + glove-box and something to go where the heated grip thing goes)?

I just got my '08 and love it. I've had tons of bikes but this... yeah.. it's awesome. The only thing is, that tank box is utter rubbish. I can't get the thing open half the time and even when I do get it open there no space to store what I am trying to put in there..If you've got or had an '08 you know exactly what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance!

Won't fit.  The fairing is completely different where it would mount.

Booo.. I thought that'd be the case but I figured it was worth a shot. I guess I could attempt making my own.

I hated to lose my 2008 tank box. I don't like the lock box at all.

My sentiments exactly.  In fact, if I was a 2010+ bike owner, I would be looking to retrofit the '08&"09 glovebox.   The side locking box is operated by a solenoid controlled lock and prone to malfunctions.

EZPASS works through the 08 09 box better than the 10 11 12.

I like the tank glove box on my 09, just right for insurance and registration papers along with spare fob batteries and garage door opener. It works great for me but yes another storage box on the side would be nice for those other needful things. I'll bet someone here has installed some type of storage box on the side.

Oh. surprising comments. I had an 04 ST1300. It had two huge side pockets. That's one of only two things I miss about the ST over the C14. The other being the windscreen - I already have an aftermarket screen that isn't quite big enough unless I slouch.

+1 ....... Registration, insurance, e-pass, garage door remote. Works great! IMO, the plain jane black cover that Kawi put in place of the tank box on the 2010 + is just fugly. If they had reshaped the tank to eliminate the plastic or done something else, that would have been OK, but to remove the box and just slap a piece of plastic over the spot was cheap.   Again, just my .02

I always run a tank bag, so I don't notice the plastic cover at the front of the tank. And I never use the box. Too big of a pain. ::)

I have a brand new clear Cee Baileys touring screen in the box.  This is the largest screen you can get for this bike.  I do not think I will ever use it, as i am happy with the '010 OEM screen I bought.  If interested, PM me.  I will take $ 150 plus shipping for it.

Somebody on the forum has put an 08/08 tank compartment on a 2010....oh wait, that was me!

Unfortunately, the thread on how I did it was lost in the forum crash.  It is not a plug and play.  You have to have a little creativity in mounting it.  If anyone is truly interested let me know.  There are a lot of parts and pieces if you buy the parts new, best bet is to find someone parting out a wrecked bike.

here is a picture...

Been using a tank bag since my sportbike days. I've never used the top box.

That i believe, it should be bolt on and play!  :)

It's a shame they don't still offer it.  I love it on the bike and can't imagine not having it.  I did the install in about and hour and a half, but like I said, it took some creativity to make it work.

Aha, I found the thread explaining how I did it (thanks to Jim for finding this after the crash)....

The reason Kawasaki put the flat panel on the 2010+ bikes was the response to some owners of the 08-09 bikes complaining that the glove box was useless and they couldn't install tank bags.  I personally don't use or like tank bags and use the glove box on my 08 all the time.
