Title: New Red 2012..
Post by: 1goindiesel on May 18, 2012, 09:56:36 AM
Hello from Kawi noob in central Texas to all of you fellow Connie enthusiasts.

I am new here and new to Kawi and Concours bikes. Got my bike yesterday.
All of 11 miles on her this morning.
Been riding since  I was just a kid in 72, probably 50-70?? bikes later this is my first Kawi.
Have been wanting one of these since 08 when they came out. Traded off a FJR while in Tenn on a
US riding tour. I have been missing that bike and hope the Connie turns out to be as good
a bike as that one was.
Currently also have a HD Springer and a Road King (sons-see above "trade in") in the garage.
Comparing the Springer (ol school, 09 crossbones with upswept fishtales and a spring tractor seat,) and the Connie...hmmm, perhaps 65 big block vette vs 2012 ZR1 corvette. Both fun, barely comparable.
Thanks to you all and this forum for all the info, it has already been a great help to me.

With a history of 50-70 bikes in 40 years, the bike will probably be sold soon.  With a 2 in 7 chance of being forgotten.  :)

Welcome to the forum, and hope you enjoy the C14 for the 6  months to a year that you will have it.

Now she has a few more mile ;Ds, what a nice machine..Need to go ride her on the twisted sisters this weekend...
Will take a bit getting used to not having stuff scraping on corners, nice and peacful, very quiet.

Looking at my original post today and the pic I can see why all the ribbing, it screams troll as a first post..
Anyway its good fun. imagine my poor wife watching all these diff toys flowing in and out of the garage.

Crazy, the comments about relegating to the back of the garage, yard needs mowed, keeping 6 months.
You guys could be channeling her, sounds EXACTLY like the ol lady!!!
Some of my riding buddies dont understand why I do not get attached to material things either, its just
the way I am, always something better /different out there (except for guns, I never part with them, even the crappy ones). I am getting older, maybe this will be "the one".

Anyhoo, I can see this is going to be a fun place.
Thanks for the welcome.. um, I think :chugbeer:.

Welcome, and I couldn't agree with you more about the guns comment.  I just wish I could own half of the weapons that have been intrusted to me over the years.

Enjoy your new bike!

I've only put 1000 miles on my Connie so far and I will tell you that all my other bikes feel different now.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but they do feel different.  I notice I am revving them a little higher than I used to.

Shame you couldn't find a black one...... but I guess red is kinda OK.

Congratulation.  And welcome to the forum. ;)

Same thing happened to me when I bought my 08.  I was still riding the C10 at the time.  After a few weeks on the C14 the C10's brakes were totally inadequate, the suspension was mush, the engine sounded rough and there wasn't any power.  Bear in mind that I found nothing wrong with the bike before I bought the C14.

above 4000 yet but I have been riding over 80 a good bit, I can see speeding tickets in my future  :hail:

Great!  I like the color, it is kinda burgundy or wine or something.  "Red"?  No :)

Indeed.  You won't believe the bike once you are not trapped below 4k.  So if you are impressed with the bike already, it will blow you away later.    Sporty, Japanese, inline-4 engines really don't like being shifted below 4k :)   Even "super relaxed econo-mode" riding, I still shift above 5.5K most of the time.

It actually looks brownish red, My wife says its mahogany, I defer to her as its more peaceful that way, mahogany it is. Now I need to find out what color she thinks V&H is... ::)
The thing that really stands out to me is what a crazy VALUE this thing is, I am used to
buying bikes and there have been a lot of a brand that I will not mention again on this forum..ahem..lucky to get a few hundred off on those. THOUSANDS off on this super fine machine just blows me away, I LOVE a value and this was a true value.

Twowheeladdict...you need more bikes :hail:

Been researching on here what remove "flies", at least I have figured out in this case bug remover is not indicated :-\

Beautiful bike. I wasn't sure if I hated or loved that red when I first saw it, but it's really grown on me.

Ok Conrad, in your case it would mean flies, buzz buzz flies. In my case it has something to do with the secondaries in the intake (like I said I am a Kawi noob).
Jeff, It was 14k all in. Got quoted 13,7xx.xx all in from the Irving TX  Kawi dealer but this one was local. That was the Kawi Irving price -no haggling needed 8)
so I took this one. We have a 6.x sales tax in TX, Personally it seems like a smokin' deal for what
you get.

This color is really "rich" looking too, personally I really dig it.

BTW, THANK YOU to whomever posted it on this forum and mentioned the dealer in Irving as a great place to get a buy on these bikes, sorry I do not remember the thread. This forum saved me some money for sure.

A great deal AND an adventure home.

The Searcy AR dealer quoted a new 2011 @ 12500+ttl
Tow dealers in AZ quoted 2012 models @ 12800 or so (as I remember)
See cycle trader and sort concours starting at the lowest price...

Yep- look at all that is INCLUDED STANDARD for the price, and then be amazed by the included, full three year warranty- which is even extendable further for a great price.  It is hard to touch.

Hell, I'd be happy to go to buy one and ride it home, but sadly I live in Kalifornia, which demands 7500 or 8500 miles be on the bike before I register it in state.

Hmm. Maybe I could drive it home, stick it in the garage on a lift and leave it in first gear and let it drive itself to 7500. Kinda like the Ferrari in Ferris Beuler, but without the destruction.
