C14 Handlebar Risers
« on: November 16, 2021, 10:47:18 AM »
Just picked up a 2021 C14. Bought it sight unseen. Long story.  The bike has a great reputation, so I figured I could not go too far wrong.  I am 6'6", and the ergos are not ideal. I am considering the following mods, but I have concerns. I did search old posts, but some were really old, so I thought I'd start fresh.

1) Murphs handlebar Risers. Will I need to re-route cables?  Any pics of which cables and how & where to re-route?

2) Corbin vs Sargent or other seat.  I did read a lot about those in old posts. I am only 10 miles from Corbin in Ormond Beach.

3) Peg lowering - Looking at Murph, but fear the distance to the foot brake and shifter will be problematic.

4) Throttle lock preferences. I don't do a ton of long interstate touring, so maybe one I can just pop on when I need it.

Looking forward to some help.

Thanks,

joe

Joe,

I didn't need longer cables or hoses with either of mine ('08 and '12) when I installed risers...and the lowering kits were must-haves.

FWIW, I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam. My bars were also widened slightly to mount radio-control gear. Don't know about the seat but I'm getting ready to convert my '12 to a solo bike (w/ police radio top box) so I'll be giving feedback about the Corbin seat soon.

That's good to hear. How is the reach for foot controls after you lowered the pegs?

FYI, the standard (read that as non-custom) Corbin seats are about an inch shorter than stock, which you don't need. I need it since I have a 29" inseam.

I don't know about the Sargent seats.

For throttle lock, I have used a few and currently have the simple Go Cruize 7/8" version which works well for the need:

Thanks. I have a Corbin I picked up at the dealer in Ormond for a test ride.  Way better, but moves me so far back (which is great for my legs) that I am reaching forward and the Ergos are not good.  I think with the risers it could work.  I'd like to try the Sargent before making such a big purchase.

BTW, I have grip buddies on my grips, do you know if that throttle lock you recommended work with those?

I cannot say for sure, since I have never used grip buddies. I did put Oxford Heated grips on my bike recently and they are larger diameter and the throttle lock works with them.

I'm 6'4" and run a Corbin 2 piece saddle and have 1.5" bar risers and the riding position is just about spot on.
I did buy some AST peg lowerers but haven't fitted them as with my size 16 feet I am already dragging my toes in corners, so I probably just need to train myself to move the inside foot back on the peg.
I do have a long back and a 32" inseam.

also tall,

I went to Corbin and had a custom seat made while I waited there, an inch taller,
love it,

The Murph's risers and wedges are great , I use both together, all just bolt on.

I went with 1 inch drop pegs from Knight design, in black.

bike fits me perfect now,
but the biggest improvement was to get the bike ECU flashed from Steve in Florida.
way better than stock power, and way smoother.

Bummer, I thought I'd get an email alert when something was posted here. So I have not checked back for a couple of days and I ordered a pair from Advanced Sport Touring. That guy has the best installation videos.  I have looked at Murphs Kit stuff, but no instructions and one word replies to my questions.

Still looking for peg lower, but don't want to deal with mods required by Advanced Sport Touring brand.

Do you happen to have peg lowering you want to sell also?

Does anyone have Murphs peg lowering installed?  Are they adjustable?
Any other brand out there adjustable?
Are the foot brake and shifter adjustable enough to compensate for the lowered pegs?

Thanks.

I have size 15 shoe, and I have never met anyone with a bigger size.  Is that the same sizing as in USA? Or, is that some British metric size shoe size system?

Wait, what? I was at Corbin (FL) and they told me it would take 6-8 weeks to get me a custom seat. I could have bought the one they had (I still might) but I ordered a Sargent that should be here in 10 days. If it is not as good, I will return it and buy the seat they had at the Corbin here. I would make the custom with a green weld and another inch back, but I just don't want to wait 2 months.

None of the charts I have seen even have a UK size as high as 16. But the pattern is that UK is 0.5 size smaller number than a US shoe.  So a 16 UK would map to 16.5 US.  That is a really big shoe!!  Mine is US 8.5, which is easy to find... except I need EEE (extra wide).  Nothing is easy for me when it comes to clothing.

I have the AST lowering kit. And its perfect for.my ading knees.  The only modification i cAn remember for their kit was cutting the chrome heat shield.  Easy peezy.....   the shifting side required just a small adjustment in length and the brake side retains the stock location to the peg.... the whole assembly is lowered as a unit.   I have size 12 boots and yes u will have to remember to put ur toes on the pegs in the corners...

Yes I have these (which is why I have peg lowering adapters to sell, lol) Not sure if mine are identical but definitely very similar. They look kinda spindly but they work very well. I have about 10,000 miles on them with zero problems and I stand up on my pegs frequently. But I only weigh 166. I'd recommend them unless your over 200 lbs. In that case you can buy the peg lowering things that these replaced. I'll post pic of both in the am.

In the UK I wear a size 15UK but in the USA I take a 16EE shoe (measured in Nike store, ECCO, North Las Vegas in Aug 2010).
I actually have a 15.5 left foot and 15 right foot (UK sizes) but most size 15UK/50EU shoes fit OK with the left feeling a little tight.
When I get to the US it's great as I can visit a regular sneaker shop and get really comfy shoes, where here in the UK I have to visit specialist BigMan stores or order online and return those that don't fit.
Hardest was always motorcycle boots, but recently the manufacturers seem to be waking up to people with big feet.
My last pair were Alpinestars Andes (good) and current pair are Held Annone (excellent but SNUG!).
I cannot wear thick socks with any of my footwear.

I met someone years ago with size 21 feet. Made mine look like kids feet <LOL>.
He was 7'2" and had HUGE hands. He was a basketball coach and ex-basketball player.
