15.000 Milles.

But my question is not how many miles to be changed?

I ask, on step by step pictures

Fred Harmon's maintenance videos will guide you through a valve check. You can stop when you get to the spark plugs.

He was just wondering, since modern spark plugs should last for a very, very long time (WAY beyond 15,000 miles).

You get more than you ask for here....

You can change them at 15k, but you are wasting time and money to do so.

We do not have a step by step pictorial on the installation of the spark plugs.  It's in Fred's Videos, though.  Good luck on the process.

+1

Almost as wasteful as a valve lash check at 15K  (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/avatars/eek.gif)

Kinda rude Charlie, maybe lost in translation?  As has been stated, changing the plugs at 15K is way too soon, 30K would be closer to a reasonable amount, but even that is early.  53000 miles on the bike, I wasted the $$ on plugs at 15 and 30, I still have them and they look like new, I will be reusing them when I hit the 75k mark, same holds true on the valve check.  The first valve check yielded some changes, the second showed no change so as far as I'm concerned things are good to go.  FWIW, my bikes is a do it all bike, commute, mountain twisties, 2 up, and twice a year to the track.  Heck, I even ride it in the rain and she gets a bath once a year weather (sic) she needs it or not ;D

hey¡ son of papy

En primer lugar no hablo ni escribo inglés.
Hablo y escribo correcatmente español y frances.
Jamás me he mostrado  GROSERO ante cualquier consulta.

No idea if I was just called the son of a fatherless dog or not ;)  ;D ;D

But, I'm willing to bet it was a matter of the google translator that has led to the misconception.
OK, I just translated it, many thanks for the kind reply and I apologize for my reply to you.  All is good in ZG land ;D

Translated reply from Charlie,

"Hey son of papy!First of all I do not speak or write English.I speak and write Spanish correcatmente and frances.I have never been rude before any consultation.Possibly the translation of google translator has the guilty AIDS.If someone has bothered, I apologize. These pages of the KAWASAKI (Concours in the USA) and GTR (in Europe) well are American, French, German or Spanish, are to help us any doubt that we have, and never-NEVER, NEVER, NEVER to be rude and/or insulting.Greetings from North Africa"

French is spoken in around 30 African countries as either the first or second language. There are Spanish speaking cities in Morocco as well.

Getting to the spark plugs is harder than doing a valve adjustment, almost.  I checked mine at 24,000 miles, and they only needed to be re-gapped.

The procedure is pretty simple.  Just remove all the upper plastic so you can get to the valve cover, remove the fairing support braces and brackets that are in the way, remove the stick coils (which is a major pain), then remove the spark plugs.

If you search the forum for stick coil removal, you'll find some pictures I posted of what they look like.

It is a big job just to get to them, so I would wait until you do valve lash adjustment and throttle body sync.  Check them out all at the same time.

Technically it wasn't the Iridium.  It was the big rock it was buried in that supposedly did the damage.

According to the FAQ the big rock was "composed almost entirely of the precious metal Iridium".

Yeah, right.  I don't believe that for a minute.  I guess we'll have to wait for the next one to be sure... ;)
