My wife talked me into going to see The Dark Tower yesterday. $13 for us both to get in, not bad. $10 for a medium popcorn, bad.
This is the first time in YEARS that we've gone to a theater to see a movie. The local theater was remodeled last year and I have to say that they did a fantastic job of it! Great electrically reclinable lounge chairs with tons of room. The video was top notch and I can't say enough good things about the audio! Absolutely the best I have ever heard.
The movie was actually better than I thought that it was going to be. Having read the reviews (see the review that I quoted above) I wasn't expecting much. Basically the premise was the same as the book only stripped way down. Some elements were added to the movie that certainly were not in the book, not even close. Having read the Dark Tower series did give me some insight as to what was going on in the movie but it also showed what was missing. Oh well.
The ending did leave the door open for a sequel though.
My rating? 6/10 Not great but not bad either. It's worth seeing but I won't be buying the disc when it comes out.
Even though I gave it a mediocre rating, this movie has earned the coveted Conrad Seal of Approval (because I waited so long for this movie to finally come out and it didn't suck).
